Finally an Open-Source Alternative

in Hive Learners15 days ago

Hello everyone. I hope you're all doing well. So recently the household name ChatGPT has got a new competitor. And they're calling it Deepseek. It was launched the same day when Tiktok was banned from the USA. Now the first question that might arise is why Deepseek is any different from ChatGPT or Google Gemini. Or maybe Anthropic’s Claude AI. Well the short answer is it's all free. The whole Deepseek thing is free.

Yes, it was released by Chinese developers and they have a significant amount of contribution, but the whole thing is open source. You can even go to their getup page right now and have a look at the source code and tweak it the way you like. Now of course open source software is good, a commendable alternative to traditional company oriented softwares. But there is something else as well. There's this new O1 model by OpenAI. Which is supposed to be a chain of thought model instead of the usual large language model. And this chain of thought model along with the higher performing gpt4 are currently behind paid subscriptions by OpenAI. But Deepseek alternative r1 is free of charge and available for use since launch. Along with that, The fritter of ChatGPT does not come with the ability to search the web. But Deepseek can do that. These are some welcome features which we could actually use. Now I know that Google Gemini also has the ability to search the web. But it is known to be accurate. But Deepseek still remains to be proven as a worthy alternative as its Web scraping ability needs to be put to the test. And I am looking forward to doing that. The simple fact that this is probably the only free alternative that provides us with a large language model, chain of thought model, Web scraping ability, and also API integration where we can use the API of this model to build more services, is a really big deal.

Till now the only artificial intelligence services that we had were all controlled by the big Tech companies and everything was basically tied back to them. But what deepseek, we finally have an open source alternative, which will push innovation, and encourage more people to work more on these AI models, which can actually lead to a better implementation of artificial intelligence, and not keep this mighty power in the hands of a select few.
