New POSH initiative - Reddit

in OCD3 years ago

After our last post announcing a change in how we curated promoted POSH tweets and seeing them work well so far for those who've understood how they work, we'd want to focus on another unused platform to incentivize sharing of Hive links and reward those focusing on getting Hive front-ends visibility.

This one will be quite different from the other so I will explain below how it will work and then the why.

Reddit POSH initiative

From today on we will reward both comments announcing that they've shared a @peakd link onto Reddit depending on how well the Reddit submission did and in the same go also curate the post if it's under our scope of curation and not too old to wreck our curation returns too much as @ocdb gets its power from the people who delegate to it so we wouldn't want to disincentivize them too much.

Simply put:

  1. Share a Hive post on Reddit (preferably @peakd link)
  2. Grab the Reddit link to your share and drop it in the @ocd POSH compilation posts.
  3. Receive a comment upvote and possibly get the post curated.

In this initiative we will allow people to share their own links as well.

Things you should know

Reddit is very strict about rules to communities/subreddits, make sure to read up on them so you don't get yourself banned from posting in that subreddit anymore.

Look for subreddits that fit your post's genre and niche. Here's a link to finding subreddits easier: https://www.reddit.com/subreddits/

Don't expect every comment to be rewarded and post to be curated, we at @ocd have a lot of restrictions in place to better distribute rewards wide. This is also a new and experimental initiative so we are going to need some time to make sure your @peakd submission on reddit are gaining some traction before we reward your comment.

Tell me why!

@peakd is one of the first front-ends to make the view counter accessible again to everyone. Although it doesn't show the exact amount of views it gives us an estimate when certain thresholds are crossed. Reddit has a large userbase, while it isn't easy to get onto trending there or get a lot of views to your post it is quite different from Twitter. More chances to get more traffic and possible new users to Hive the better so we want to reward those putting in the effort to POSH.

Our curators will check each 4 of the big front-ends, @peakd, hive.blog, @ecency and @leofinance on a daily basis in case someone has shared a post that would be eligible for rewards but just didn't add a comment in case we can still curate it, this will be something passive from your side so you won't need to worry about it. While any of the front-ends is eligible for comment rewards, we're prioritizing peakd as that way we get another proof that it indeed did get a lot of traffic if the submission both has upvotes received and views on peakd, but the other front-ends can receive comment rewards and curation as well.

If you are a curator yourself reading this and want to help the initiative, this is a great place to track Hive front-end links shared onto reddit:

https://old.reddit.com/domain/peakd.com/

just switch the domain with whichever front-end you want to browse. As an example above, @luizeba shared a post in the appropriate subreddit about a game he was posting about on Hive a couple days ago, it may have gotten him a few extra views from people outside of Hive: https://old.reddit.com/r/TibiaMMO/comments/tt63k2/tibia_adventures_chapter_02_first_hunts/

https://peakd.com/@luizeba/tibia-adventures-chapter-02-first

This is something we would want to reward more either through curation or giving the comment announcing that he's shared it on Reddit or both!

@poshtoken will most likely in the future automate this process to work similarly as with Tweets but for now we'll do it this way until we can get the bot to work perfectly and build it bigger.

Let us know your thoughts and if we can improve on this in any way! If you have some other platforms in mind you'd like to see POSH cover, feel free to let us know and we'll be looking into it, though be aware that big ones like Facebook are already in our scope and we're making plans on getting them added. Though we may need some more dev power and funding maybe through a DHF proposal, would this be something you'd support with your stake? :)

Cheers and until next time!

Great news, for example, I spend a lot of time on reddit, and I also devote enough time to Hive, so this news interests me very much. Thank you for developing and improving such integrations.

Awesome to hear! This is one of the initiatives I'll be trying to partake a lot in as well as soon as I'm done traveling and have more free time!

I think by the time you get back from your trip, the Hive community members will already have expressed their ideas and thoughts on this matter here. I am sure that the topic will be of interest to many. Have a nice trip!

I've never had much luck with Reddit. Maybe I'm not into it enough. R/cryptocurrency is frightening. I do like it better than twitter though.

some subreddits can do really well, expecially those already into crypto. I shared a GU post in the godsunchained subreddit and with only 20 upvotes it got over 300 views on peakd and lots of comments from brandnew accounts, since hiveonboard has account credits now as ocdb is creating for them its probably a good idea to pursue this initiative.

I plan to write a blog or two with could go into the more niche subreddits, maybe ill try to post. I believe I still have my reddit account linked to hive.

I was literally thinking about it hahaha

Absolutely I nice one! Though I shall take this as sharing my content in any form, and my own way of helping distribute HIVE as the sharing part. While my traction on Twitter is rock bottom, my traction in Reddit will be more like sub-zero :) To all Reddit users: "Rock as much as you can!"

the good news is that on reddit it won't depend as much on your following as on twitter if you get traction on your submissions.

Tried it with zero result., but I shall continue trying to promote posts through Reddit.

it is certainly an excellent evolution, one more channel. I am not very familiar with reddit, in any case I will follow with interest. Good job.
@tipu curate

Cool! :) Those are some great new features. I think the focus of POSH/reddit links will really help spread the hive around!

Amazing news :)

Thanks for using my post as an example, Acidyo :D I find it very difficult to share Hive content on Reddit as the communities are usually VERY close to outside content, and posting a "different" like (eg PeakD) raise a lot of flags. I already had a few posts of mine removed by reddit admins, and had to chat with them, explaining that Hive was just another social media... but even then, people are also very scared of cryptocurrencies scam, and a few mods just decided to let my posts stay removed anyway :(

I like seeing this moving forward and perhaps we get more people interested in our world 😉

This is awesome. I do go on Reddit sometimes. I just read the articles, but not joined. I did try and create a account, but so confusing. It was difficult to open an account !

Yeah don't disagree there, if you think newbies have a hard time with RC here you should know about karma restrictions for new accounts due to anti-bot measures on reddit are way worse.

Awesomeeee I think reddit can be a very powerful tool for introducing people to hive and it's ecosystems

Awesome news! I'm not a regular Reddit user but I know its potencial

This is good initiative.

Wow , this is a great news and welcome development.i will continue to devote my time on hive

thanks for the good news. I have received today's news

This is a great initiative and will help to promote Hive to a wider audience.

Youtube is a good place for sharing Hive links - in descriptions of your own videos, for example, new or old. If you have a good video there, it will keep getting visitors for ages. Links in desc can lead people to Hive.

But I don't know how to measure this contribution because Youtube video content, unlike Tweets, collects views during a long time - weeks, months, years. But maybe the data of peakd's referral system can be used for POSH reward system in this case of another.

Just thinking out loud.

Good news 🤗

Appreciate you
