The Emergency European Council meeting today provided no solution to the standoff in which illegal migrants remain docked on the Diciotti – the Italian Coast Guard vessel which ‘rescued’ them – in the Sicilian port of Catania. In fact, things appear to be digressing quite rapidly. The impasse involves Italy requesting that the EU find host nations for the un-vetted illegally trafficked immigrants, as it was the EU who demanded they be let into Europe in the first place. No leader of any EU country has so rebelliously defied the authority of this powerful unelected body – until now.
The usually-mild-mannered Italian Premier, Giuseppe Conte, came away quite angry after the meeting resulted in a lack of decisions by the EU Council. He stated that there would be “consequences.” Italy has threatened the unprecedented move of withholding its share of €20 billion towards the EU’s budget. It is one of the defiant nation’s only points of leverage to compel the EU to honour its obligations.
Although the financial threat is unprecedented, so is the situation in which the EU has placed one of its most generous and tolerant member states. Italy has rescued and accepted more illegal immigrants than any other nation. Only the nation of Greece, with its numerous ports, has been as indignantly used as Europe’s doormat, to the extent that Italy has. There is no evidence to support the EU's claims that their leadership is working hard to resolve the migrant matter. They issued threats of their own, however subtle. EC spokesman, Alexander Winterstein, said, "I don't want to go into hypothetical scenarios" on what might happen if Italy doesn't pay its contribution.”
Meanwhile, Day 9 of the extended stay aboard an Italian Coast Guard vessel looms as the already malnourished passengers aboard 'Hotel Diciotti' take part in a hunger strike. Things haven’t turned out quite as they might have imagined after their still-yet-to-be-named vessel was intercepted by the Italian Coast Guard.
Death Camp Diciotti, Sicily
A precipitous decrease in calories may not be the wisest counsel the “migrants” have received from the revolving door of opportunistic visitors during the last 3 days in the Sicilian port of Catania. Representatives from a multitude of NGOs (including the same ones whose ships have for 2 years lingered off the Libyan coast and participated in the migrant-relay-race), human rights groups, legal-types and other progressive busy-bodies have virtually lined up to see the young, overtly healthy, predominantly Eritrean men. It would go a long way in the propaganda war to diminish the threatening posture of these fellas by painting the picture of a concentration-camp-like atmosphere inside the ship. The tale that these nutritionally deficient migrants could themselves even contemplate the ridiculous concept of a hunger strike, after already missing out on months of mom's home-cooking, is about as believable as the idea that these men would feel compelled to fund our future pension ponzi scheme, much less care to. The political usury of these individuals, sacrificing their health at such a crucial time in their recovery, to advance the destructive “open-borders” agenda should warrant the most immediate attention of any true humanitarian. They may not deserve asylum – but they certainly don’t deserve this disgusting display of inhumanity.
As usual the media is leading the public in a wide arc around the truth and the important facts surrounding the illegal entry of a sovereign nation by law-breaking almost completely military-age men with questionable intentions. They're deflecting and demonizing a government that is doing precisely what it's voters asked of it. It's the usual character assassinations of the greatest threats to the lying, cheating, weak and pathetic dependents of the status-quo. Do we have a government anywhere else in the West that is as transparently going through such great pains to give the voters what they asked for?
Name it.
