TYPES OF SOIL
The parsley adapts comfortably to all types of soils, although it prefers those that are deep, rich in humus, loose, fresh and very well fertilized.
WEATHER
This crop resists any type of climate, although it adapts better to the warm ones. Although it must be borne in mind that the plants planted in summer will take 14 to 16 days to be born, and those sown in winter, in a warm area, one month.
SOWING AND TRANSPLANTATION
If there is a simple plant to plant at home, both in a pot and on the ground, it is undoubtedly the parsley
Moment of planting: the parsley can be sown at any time of the year, but the seeds will germinate sooner if the plants between the months of February and septiembre.
It can be done in lines that are separated from each other from 15 to 20 cm, leaving 5 to 8 cm between plants. Before planting, the seed should be soaked for 24 hours.
Watering until the seeds germinate, spray the mulch or soil with water two or three times a day, making sure the soil is always humid. The parsley needs a frequent irrigation but in small quantities, to ensure a constant humidity
Depth of the soil: the seeds of parsley can be planted perfectly in a simple pot and make holes between 1 and 2 centimeters deep. Plant the seeds well apart from each other and make sure they are all underground. Keep in mind that the parsley plant needs some space to grow strong and healthy so do not choose a pot too small.
If you grow parsley in a pot inside the house and you can control that the temperature is between 20 and 26 degrees Celsius, before the seeds will germinate and you can collect your harvest of excellent homemade parsley.
It can be done after two or three months, you should start cutting the parsley at ground level. It is preferable that the harvest be done early in the morning to prevent the plant from beginning to feel the effect of heat. When the outer stems have a height of 5 to 10 centimeters in height we can cut the parsley to use it. The picking of the parsley is done from its outer stems, when it reaches the desired size and maturity, you can cut it down. The parsley will continue its sprouting by the central stems and will not affect its growth.
The parsley produces its leaves during the first year, and leaves and flowers during the second, before dying. Once past those two years, when the parsley has thrown its flowers and fruits we must remove the bushes, which we can use for composting and start the process again.
Basic tools: to grow your own homemade parsley you will not need more than some basic tools that are extremely economical: good pruning shears, a watering can, a small shovel, a dust and water vacuum cleaner if you plant the parsley in the garden, etc.
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CILANTRO AND PARSLEY
ASPECT AND COLOR OF THE LEAVES.
The first difference between cilantro and parsley is noticed in the shape of the leaves. The leaves of coriander have a more rounded shape than those of parsley (these are usually more triangular). Also, if you look at its color you will see that the leaves of the cilantro have a shade of green much lighter than those of the parsley.
HEIGHT OF THE PLANT.
So as not to confuse the parsley and coriander plants in the garden, look at the height of the plant: that of cilantro is usually higher than that of parsley. To give you an idea, keep in mind that a well-pruned plant, sulfated and watered with cilantro can reach a height higher than 60 or 65 centimeters; a parsley plant will not reach more than 25 centimeters in height, even if you take care of it with as much care as the rest of the aromatic herbs in your garden or garden.
PESTS AND DISEASES OF PARSLEY
SEPTORIOSIS:
One of the most important foliar diseases of parsley. It is caused by fungi that stain the brown plant and black spots and dry it until its leaves are spoiled. Horsetail is the best ecological fungicide. Against fungi, the smartest thing is to prevent them: keep the plants clear, so that the air can run and avoid wetting the leaves during watering (fungi love warm, shady and humid places).
PULGON:
The aphid usually appears if the irrigation is overused and the soil has an excess of nitrogen. If this is the case, we will resort to potassium soap dissolved in water or one of the preparations that we offer in Planeta Huerto. Potassium soap is a natural, ecological, non-toxic product that does not require a period of safety and respects the auxiliary fauna. In the article "How I fight the pulgón" you will be able to find all the information that you need to finish with this known parasite.
APIO FLY:
It usually appears in spring and summer. The female lays its eggs in the leaves and the larvae dig inside, which produces a drying of the tissues. The neem extract is a good ecological treatment against parasites.
MILDIU:
This fungus affects the cotyledons (the main leaves found in the germ of the seed) and the first leaves, although it can manifest later. Here you can read an article about remedies for mildew.
TIPS
Before using the parsley to cook, you should wash it well.
