Project Details
Node.js is an open-source, cross-platform JavaScript run-time environment that executes JavaScript code outside of a browser... Node.js allows the creation of Web servers and networking tools using JavaScript and a collection of "modules" that handle various core functionality... Node.js represents a "JavaScript everywhere" paradigm, unifying web application development around a single programming language, rather than different languages for server side and client side scripts. | Source
In simple words, this project brings value to the open source community because it facilitates the creation of all sort of applications using JavaScript, and provides a lot of help and versatility to developers, so much so that well-known companies like Netflix, Paypal, and Uber (among many others) use Node for their online services.
Since Node.js is very easy to learn and it provides a lot of benefits for developers, there is a huge community of people involved with it, which is one of the reasons why this project is available to be translated into several languages (in crowdin, one of the best translation platforms in the web, this project is available to be translated into 33 different languages, Spanish is the one corresponding to this contribution), the ultimate goal of translating Node.js is to make it easier for developers from any country to start learning about this project in their own native language.

Contribution Specifications
- Translation Overview
This is my #48 contribution to Node.js, the project is currently 43% completed for the Spanish language.
In this contribution I translated strings from the version 6.14.2, this particular version has only 1 notable change, and as usual, the majority of the strings are from the commits section, below we can see a glimpse of the content belonging to this version:
The commit section is where people can find all the necessary instructions to apply changes to individual files, it allows for the developers to maintain a proper order regarding every single change that was applied to the software, and it also provides the complete history of all the modifications that were applied in the past.
These changes can range from simple instructions like fixing typos on a document, to more technical instructions like refactoring tests, or fixing memory leaks.
It is integrated with GitHub because each of these strings always has the link to the commit on GitHub and its corresponding pull request, this is very useful when it comes to exchanging information with other developers so the software can work as smooth as possible.
Sometimes we can find some technical terms in those strings, in those cases the best way to proceed is to take the time and do a little research to figure out the proper meaning of those terms and translated them in the most accurate way.
Some examples of the strings I translated for this contribution can be seen below:
English
make header style consistent
Spanish
hacer consistente al estilo de encabezado
Consistency is important to facilitate the understanding of a series of documents. Given the fact there were some API docs with a different style in the header, a change was proposed to have all documents with the same header style. Source
English
Reuse ObjectTemplate instances
Spanish
Reusar instancias de ObjectTemplate
This change was proposed because V8 wasn’t releasing the corresponding ObjectTemplate
instances, even though it was caching them. Therefore, a solution was proposed to fix this little issue. Source
English
fix outdated code sample in n-api.md
Spanish
corregir ejemplo de código obsoleto en n-api.md
With software that is constantly being updated, such as Node.js, there might be cases where an obsolete code is not properly replaced, with time this can cause serious compatibility problems, which is why it is very important to fix these issues as soon as possible. In this particular case, the code from napi_create_object and napi_property_descriptor weren’t updated to their latest API, so a change to fix this was proposed through GitHub.
When working on this contribution I was able to learn the following concepts:
N-API: this is an API that allows developers to create native addons, which means these addons will work on any future version of the software without the need to recompile them, hence the use of the word “native”. Source
In the previous contributions, I included the definition of these terms: deprecation, I/O - input/output, callback, asynchrony, POSIX, parsing, path, wildcard, wrapper function, stack trace, floating point value, error-first callbacks, transpilation tool, root certificate, little-endian, DNS rebinding, same-origin-policy, keep-alive behavior, stringification, arrow function, salt (cryptography), semver, lint, fixtures modules, newline, backporting, shell command, ES6 Classes , code refactoring, tarball, benchmark, type-check, deflate, char, aix, spawn, rehash, noop, rebasing, continuous integration, linkify, segfaults, IPC, libuv, toolchain, punycode, symlink, base64, interprocess communication (IPC), application binary interface (ABI), read–Eval–Print Loop (REPL), advanced Interactive eXecutive (AIX), GYP, Opaque binary blob (obb), symbolic link, destructuring, dotfiles, transport layer security (tls), realpath function, watchdog, continuous integration, smoke test, hotfix, data execution prevention, (DEP), try/catch blocks, off-by-one error, carriage return, ESLint, hard code, hook, Resource Acquisition Is Initialization or RAII, Coverity, nit, backtick, hashes, big endian, nop, redux, shorthand, TPR records, rest parameters, and javaScript Object Notation (JSON)
