Welcome to my #saturdaysavers post, it is a club activity where all of us here sharing our saving goals and saving updates. This post is the last update I make for February 2025, currently nothing special is happening and if you want to deep dive about #saturdaysavers, you can scroll down to my footer post, it has more information there.
Today I want to share a short story about Investment Preference. I shared this pic earlier in BRO Community Discord because @raymondspeaks talked about getting a new office which meant he would leave his home office for a better place to work... more focus and more professional supports.
I aimed these region and a new shophouse block for years. I don't know why, but Asian mostlikely love shophouses, they buy shophouses for everything. Selling their food, opening groceries, set up a school, a naughty massage outlet. and many more, just name it!
In my case, I want to use it to set up my company office. I run micro business in construction, which mostlikely we are demanded to work 24 hours because schedule is everything. We don't give a Fcuk about office hours or working days, our mindset is just to complete the work on schedule.
Due to that traits, I see we are not fit to get a working space in office building. The limited working hours, limited environment which most likely smoking becomes a crime there, policy that prohibit people to stay overnight, and many more.
My old man used to do this too. He bought a couple of shophouses which ended up as his head office. But due to pandemic, the bank and the government tax had shut us down, ended up we lost that shophouses in commerce court law. The company could not run after that, but I took over the operation and some clients who did not care about our legal issues still giving us works until today.
This saturday I drove and passed that street. I saw some units were near completed, and I was interested about them. For a two storeys shophouse with a total 115m2, they asked for 80.000 USD. I thought that's a fair price, however I decided not to buy it. It's not about the money, I could call a new bank for the mortgage.
Over these years, my investment preference has changed a lot. In past I was heavy relied on property, there were times when I had more than 10 apartment units and they gave me residual income above 20k USD a year. However I lost almost all of them due to covid, had to sell them less than half price to cover up some essential expense for my big family.
The problem with the current property market which shifted my preference are:
- Too many people failing to keep up their mortgage. Every month there are cheap units available for a very cheap price, because the banks want to liquidate them just to cover the debt.
- There are less liquidity for contractor like me. If I come to bank asking for loan to finish my works, most likely they will reject. If I ask a loan to purchase a property they will accept. They count that as different risk level, too many construction contractors went bankrupt so asking a loan for working capital is almost guaranteed to be fail. This case cause me to hold more cash rather than buying equipment and spending for capital expenditures.
- Due to too many uncertainty in market, many people have closed down their business. Commercial units occupancy rate drops badly, this leads to a lower rent price. For the same shophouses, if I don't buy, I might be able to rent for it for about 4-5k a year. So I could use the rest of my fund to finish my works. For values against time analysis, buying this shop house becomes a loss, better I rent them annually.
Anyway I think I have been blabbering too much here LoL what do you think, do you think the same with me that in your place Property has become a bad investment, or maybe in your place property is still blooming... Do share your opinion below on comment section...
Now let's see my saving update here..
PRIMARY TARGET : HBD SAVING
My primary goal is to grow my $HBD Saving, to reach 5.000 $HBD Saving in this year, 2025. That is an ambitious target regarding I started 2025 with 0 $HBD. Mathematically this means I need to get $95 HBD every week.
I have 112 $HBD saving this week. Well I have added $5 more this week, not a good number and in fact it is damn too small compared to the goals I need to achieved. I still need 4888 $HBD saving more to close my annual saving target.
With this update, we can say that I have finished the first 2 months in 2025. IF it is based on proportionality, my saing should be somewhere around 800 $HBD. So we can say that I only achieve less than 20%.
But this is not something that I should have made some big decision or strategy to overcome it. I have said earlier in my first #saturdaysavers post that the first Q1 in this year would be a big hectic and plenty of nasty things would come. I even did not expect I could make any $HBD saving during this period.
So I am expecting the next 5 weeks will be very similar to this condition. My real HBD saving will start next month. It's all due to some financial issues I have, and I do not see any necessity to retell it in my posts over and over.
SECONDARY TARGET : HIVE POWER (HP)
Hive Power (HP) is very important for all Hivers who plan to stay long on this blockchain. For 2025, my secondary goal is to have 13.500 Hive Power (HP). It's not a big target and I want to make as many people realize that it is important to grow your Hive Power.
I have reached 10.640 HP on this week, so I have around 2.860 HP left to achieve if I want to reach my 2025 secondary goal here. My recap for 2025 secondary saving target update is here:
This round I am quite amazed that my HIVE POWER grew bigger than the weeks before. 78 HP is not a great number, and even not a good one. I take min 100 HP growth to say that is a decent week. However considering I have been busy and could not post regularly, it is ok to say seeing any 50+ HP growth should be satisfactory.
