Mysore is known for its cleanliness, ranking in a good position in cleanliness index. And that is one thing you’ll notice reaching Mysore. Compared to other places in India, Mysore can be a good example for managing their litter being not flying around everywhere.

This cleanliness is a contribution of the people who live here. There is an active effort that is being put into keeping Mysore clean by its residents. But, Mysore is a major tourist place.

With a rich culture of art and heritage sites, Mysore is one of the major tourist attractions in Karnataka. I remember going to Mysore, Kodagu, and Coorg from my school trips. Every year people from different parts of the world and different parts of India come here to visit architectural marvels, gardens, and nature itself.

It was always disheartening to see people like me and you while on a trip litter around the place we visit. Mysore is no different in that matter. Irrespective of the ranking and efforts of the locals here, we who come here to enjoy the beauty of this place end up destroying it with casual actions.

One another good initiative from the state government here is the ban on plastic carry bags. That means, you either carry a bag for your shopping or paper and cloth bags are available in most of the stores. But, there are a lot of things which come in plastic wrappers. That too, in non-recyclable plastics. These are the ones which mostly end up on the roadsides and other public places.

Another appreciable effort from the government is that there are bins available in most places. And still, you'll get to see garbage heaped up on the side. So, let’s make a mission of keeping this city clean by tourists too.

Let’s steal a little bit of credit from the locals for keeping Mysore clean ;)
