THE LORD'S SUPPER- why some do not partake in it- part 3

in #steemchurch6 years ago

Now we consider the reasons why some do not partake in this blessed ordinance. The word of Jesus concerning those who are supposed to be communicants was all-inclusive; it did not say that some Christians should take it while others ignore. Despite the fact that we are to discern and eat with the right heart, which I think may prove a person unfit for it sometimes, it's still an ordinance that is supposed to be performed by every saint.

There are many reasons why people don't go to the Lords table and upon which I shall talk about soon. If only we truly understand the purpose and blessings obtained in this ordinance, we wouldnt take it for granted. Why should we forfeit such an ordinance that produces an expansion on our faith, increase our grace, strengthens the new man and deepens repentance? Why? What is comparatively fit to serve as an impediment to cause the Christian to hide when the Lords supper is celebrated?

I would be a bit ok if only the reasons why people do not partake in it are from themselves. Because such an issue will be easily fixed if they get the knowledge about it. But the problem is gross sometimes. Sometimes it has to do with the local church as a whole. Therefore our first point shall be

IGNORANCE

"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge" (Hosea 4:6, ESV). The rejection of knowledge about this ordinance will produce ignorant people within the church. This lack of knowledge reduces the appetite for the Lords body and blood. Why should I take what I don't understand? That's why pastors should preach about it so that the people get a clearer view of what they are told by God to perform.

Failure to teach this in the church should be considered disobedience just as those who fail to take it. Remember "I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children" (Hosea 4:6, ESV).
Failure to preach this truth to enlighten the people's understanding about this ordinance is a gross disobedience to God.

LIVING IN AN UNREPENTED SIN

Some people are prevented from partaking in this ordinance because of the guilt of their sins. And I agree with them. If you are living in an unrepented sin, my advice to you is to confess your sins with a repentant heart and ask God for forgiveness so that your conscience will be clear to enable you take the bread and wine. Don't take your guilt for granted but rather make good use of it.

You may not have the same guilt tomorrow, today is the day to repent and come back to the family of God. Look at the body of Jesus on the cross and consider his blood that was poured out for the remission of your sin. Repent and believe in his redemptive work and he will save you and prepare you to be fit for communion.

SOME TOO FEAR THE RESPONSIBILITY THAT COMES WITH IT.

Those who take the body and blood must take it in a right heart. Failure to do so will attract something unbearable. Paul said "Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty concerning the body and blood of the Lord" (1 Corinthians 11:27, ESV)and also "anyone who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment on himself." (1 Corinthians 11:29, ESV)

It is totally profiting to the soul of the communicant but it's also damning when taken in the wrong way. This responsibility is too heavy for some to bear and because of that, they shun from the ordinance. But I don't think it's wise to run away from the plain words of God because of the responsibility that comes from it. Falling into sin after taking the sacrament is the same as disobedience to the word of God.

So the best thing to do is to partake in it by living in his will. Asking God for help to live a holy life. Only God can help us walk in his ways. Without the power of the Holy Ghost, nothing will be possible.

Great post my friend and brother! I checked the other day to see if you had continued on this teaching. One of the ways I see the Lord’s Supper as getting our priorities set. Like a reset for our compass! To reset our priorities if they have gone astray. Also considering the Lord’s body, I have to consider you, also my brother in Christ that is in the hospital or is struggling. Some go to church and take communion and they have the worlds wealth and in the same meeting, there is someone there that has no clue what they are going to eat after church. This should not be so without the one that has, sharing with the one that hasn’t. When Saul persecuted the church, on the road to Damascus, Jesus said, “Saul. Why persecutest thou Me?” When you do it to the least of these My brethren, you do it unto Me. We are the Body of Christ and members in particular.
If you have bitterness in your heart against your brother, go make it right with him first.
The Lord’s supper is also called communion. It is a reset or restoration in our fellowship with God and with the brethren. We have to consider the persecuted church. We have to consider one another and pray for one another.
Blessings bro!
Can’t wait for your next installment.
