Some time ago I snapped some shots of berries; raspberries, strawberries and blue berries (I ate them all afterwards), and they came out pretty well in colour considering my average skills with a camera however at the time I snapped some black and white ones as well and I thought I'd share them in a little post.
It's kind of weird to see these berries in black and white, they don't seem very appetising do they? Down the bottom I added one of the colour photos I took and I reckon that's a fucken tasty looking raspberry...the black ones...nope, not so tasty looking.
Looking at the difference in appeal between the black and white version and the coloured photo of the raspberry makes me think how fortunate we are to see in colour as it can make things look so much more appealing. I love black and white photography, the effect, mood, tone and drama of it, but I'm really glad to see in colour in real life. How about you?
Do you think you'd enjoy life as much if your eyes didn't see in colour and everything you looked at appeared in black and white? Feel free to comment on this or anything else if you wish.

Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III was used to capture these images.
Ooft, the black and white strawberry in particular looks horrible! I love black and white but yeek!
It's quite horrendous isn't it? Thank fuck we see in colour.
Oh aye or we would starve to death!
Oh no...I want all the colors, and lots of them. Also...I wanna stick my finger in that raspberry 😂
I know, black and white is not the way I want to see fruit!
That raspberry though, it's just begging to have it's hole penetrated isn't it? 😬
lol it was obviously put there for a reason!
I can't imagine the world without color. It would be so drab and dark to me. Like living in the movie the Crow or something.
Nice shots, You are really good with using the light box. I just got mine and have posted a couple of sessions with mine so far as I learn. Gonna do another today. It's kind of fun. Just need to teach my cat that it is not his bed.
Drab and dark indeed...It's all good to like black and white photography when we have the ability to see the world in colour all the time...seeing in black and white all the time though? Nope, it's not for me.
I'm glad you're enjoying your light box, I'll have a look at your posts.
Thanks. Hope your week is going well and the Man-flu has passed.
Black and white definitely dulls the appeal of food. I can't imagine life without color. It's such a big part of enjoying everyday moments. The thought of my kids' artwork appearing in black and white instead of full of vibrant colors is hard to picture. I think that would be the toughest part for me.
I love black and white photography but it doesn't work for everything and this post is a point in case. Also, I agree, I'd not like to see in black and white all the time...it'd be a dull world.
Hi Galen, I also like black and white photography. The question leads me to only one answer: sadness. I think it's a conditioned answer, there are people who don't see and are happy, and others who see the world in color and are not.
About the photographs, I liked the bitten fruit, in black and white it made me salivate.
Greetings
I ate all that fruit after the photoshoot...it was tasty and thankfully not black and white. I like berries and luckily strawberries are quite low in sugar which suits me fine.
Mmmm, 🤤 you have whet my appetite..... There's a store near my work 🏃...
Get on it!
👋 Here I go.
Have a great and profitable end of the day.
Some animals see in limited colors, I do wonder how it must feel at times😂😂😂
The berries in black and white do look disgusting though 😂
Yep, black and white fruit looks very unappetising for sure. 😐
My dad is color blind and it has always been hard to understand the way he sees the world compared to the way I do. It seems like a really small thing, but it ends up being so huge. I got some really good raspberries the other day. Probably some of the sweetest I have had so far this year. The black and white really does give the strawberries a totally different vibe!
It would be interesting to see a colour blind person suddenly see in full colour, it'd blow their mind!
Indeed! I think there are some glasses out there now that do that, but I don't think they have been fully tested. I just remember seeing a video about it a while ago.
It's insane how much improvement color gives to food. The black and white ones even look alien like. The strawberry's sheen makes me not want to eat it.
I know right? Thank fuck food isn't black and white!
I think we will have an underweight problem instead.
I love colour so much that I don't know if I would enjoy life as much without them, although if I had never seen them I wouldn't know what they're really like.....
The black and white images, gave me a feeling of sadness, sorrow, but the second one is fantastic because of the details that you see nearby, I like that a lot!
Would you eat a black strawberry? I wouldn't, so thankfully strawberries are coloured huh?
No! I wouldn't eat it 🤣 black.... I think it's bad hahaha
Yeah, it's probably not a good idea.
And even more so if any part is missing.... watch out! Better to eat fresh fruit!
Black and white doesn't actually attend to details as things could get boring. I remember those days when we had black and white TV in our home, it was a wonder to us but when the coloured was brought out, I wondered how the latter ever appealed to me.
Black and white has its own beauty but can't ever compare. I loved the coloured version of the berries better.
I remember black and white TV also, hasn't technology come a long way!
It sure has! 😊
I really like the 2nd picture.... it's amazing 🤩
Thanks, I appreciate it.
😀😀
Reading through, I just realized how we tend to take things for granted because they are part of our default settings. Thank you for the reminder, guess I’ll take some time appreciating the beauty of colour today.
I agree, it's worth appreciating what we have around us because it may not always be there.
Never!!!!!!!
Guess what!! I first glanced at the photos first before reading through the writeup and do you know what I thought? I asked myself, are they are black berries species? Lol
Damn it, I can't wish to go back to those days of monochromatic pictures.
Things are going to look boring on photos.
I like black and white photography however I think it depends heavily on the subject and that some things look way better in colour.

What would the world look like without colours? Would be absolutely dull. I probably would not want to taste any of the berries looking pale black. 😁
Fair call.
We're just thankful we're enable to see the beauty of our world compared to those blind people who can only see black all of their life
Agreed.
But colour and monochrome pictures have their divers ways of conveying information. Great pictures
True.
