I should have known better but I went anyway; part of me knew what would probably happen and part of me thought I'd be able to control myself...the part that knew what would probably happen was right...it happened...it's still happening, and is probably going to keep happening until I satisfy the need.
I went to see a mate of mine from the old days, someone I worked with back in the day and a fellow I call brother. He was in town for his job and called up to make a time for lunch and a brew which we had at a legit place called the Warradale Hotel close to his company's State office. We caught up on what's going on in our respective lives, talked about some of the fellows from back in the day and laughed about some of the things we did and then it happened...I saw his watch.
He and I are both watch guys meaning we like and collect watches and we have some decent timepieces between us. We have slightly different tastes and needs but sometimes they align. He got into smartwatches a little while back which I think are terrible and I've often teased him about his like for them...but then I saw his Tag Heuer Connected Calibre E4 and after checking it out a little I started to warm up to the idea of connected watches. I don't mean like the Apple watch, those things are terrible, but this Tag Heuer Calibre E4...well now, there's a smartwatch I might be am interested in. He's got the 45mm titanium model but I like the 45mm stainless steel model and I can see myself getting it at some stage.
We talked about technology, smartwatches and the more traditional variety that I prefer, and both agreed that we like traditional watches more but there's some cool tech in watches these days and smartwatches can offer features that the others cannot. He also took the time to lay into me about my interest in his smartwatch considering how much shit I have given him over the years since they were released. I deserved it.
I'll not be buying one just yet, I just don't need it, but then again, I don't really need any of the watches I have. Still, I'll not get one now as I can't warrant the expense and there's still part of me that rebels against smartwatches I guess...but my resistance is wearing down and I can see myself getting one of these Tag Heuer Calibre E4's...maybe if I drop enough hints to my partner I might get one for my birthday.
What's the go with you? Do you use a smart watch or a traditional watch like me? Which do you prefer and why? I know so many don't wear watches as they're always looking at their phones but I'm not that guy, I hate my phone and would prefer to look at a timepiece to find out the time. You?

Start the hinting now! The stainless steel with that red face looks particularly good!!
One must hint to get what one wants, it is widely known.
Legit watch. #need
Lord aye. I am the master hinter in this house 😀😀
Some hint well, some not so well...and then there's master hinters who hint with style and class, and receive in abundance. You're the latter.
I like to think so and I bet you are as well. However I suspect at least in this house the Good Lady would beg to differ on me at least!
They always have their own agenda and we know they're wrong and we're right...not that we'd ever dare to state that publicly or within earshot of them hearing. We know better. 🫣
Heh heh, we have a care for our own skins!
When it comes to watches, I will always go for the classics
There’s nothing like the beauty and simplicity of timeless pieces. For me, watches are meant to tell the time and serve as an interesting accessory; I really don’t need more than that. Smartwatches aren’t watches; they’re just small phones.
Although there are brands mixing these two styles in interesting ways, lately there have been some intriguing models like the one you mentioned. I hope that the classics never change, just like what’s happening with cars; I hope that doesn’t happen
The classics are classic for a reason right?
I don't like watches, but I've been thinking about buying one of those bands to see how my body responds to physical effort... I've been thinking about it for days and haven't made up my mind.
Surely your hint is getting through hahaha.
I'm surprised how many people don't like watches, it's like watches have done something to earn almost universal derision. I'm ok to stand apart and say I like them though, I don't mind being the odd man out.
Well just because you've discovered a few people here who don't like them doesn't mean they are all of humanity... hahahaha... I'm sure the ratio of those who wear watches and those who don't is skewed to your side.
I haven't been able to justify the cost for a smart device like that yet. I usually have my phone pretty handy and like a fashion watch I am afraid of spending that kind of money on something and scratching it or banging the crap out of it. I'm the sort of guy who gets my hands dirty at any given moment, so any jewelry I wear would need to take a beating.
Smartwatches aren't that smart...they simply mirror some of what's on one's phone. Not that smart at all...and I've lived my whole life without knowing how many steps I do because I always do a lot and am one who self motivates and doesn't need a watch to tell me to get off the couch.
I have a fitness tracker, but I sit at a computer most of the day, so it is a more of a necessity for me. I get what you are saying though.
At first, I didn't like watches, now I'm warming up to them.
Have a smart watch and its an essential part of my wardrobe.
Planning on getting the older conventional watches though, they seem a bit more formal.
I prefer traditional watches over the smartwatches and never thought I'd consider the latter...but this Tag Heuer got my attention.
Not been wearing a watch for more than 20 years now so it is hard for me to feel your attachment but I can understand it as I like watching them in the shops when walking on jewelry stores in shopping centers. Watches are part of us and our style and likes and as well as I would buy many bikes and bike equipment when I see them, I can understand you and your friend going over them 😃
Ther a only so many watches to go around so I like it when people don't like watches because it means there's more available for those who do.
I don't wear a watch. My phone is nearby most of the time so I can already see what time it is. And I don't wear any accessories other than my favorite basketball club hat but even it I wear super rarely. I also don't have any tattoos. The only accessory I would consider getting would be the witcher wolf school medallion.
Looking at my phone to tell the time would drive me nuts so I wear a watch or tell the time by the position of the sun.
Right now I have a shit fitbit watch. I use it to monitor my heart and steps. But mostly my heart. I prefer a manly watch and been shopping for one off and on for a while now. I just haven't pulled the trigger. You showed me one a while back that monitors heart rate that looked real cool and seemed rugged, but I lost the link.
There's some legit watches available and while I'm not into monitoring my heartbeat there's a few watches out there that dobut well without looking like a apple watch which I think looks totally stupid. Some googling with reveal them.
I just found a G shock that looks promising and in my price range.
G-SHOCK watched are awesome, you'll not regret it.
Yeah I’ve owned couple in the past which is why I went straight to their website. Bought time for me to shed the she-watch. lol
I'm not a "watch guy." All I want in a watch is an analog dial with hours and minutes. I'm fascinated by mechanical movements and traditional watchmaking, but I can't justify buying a showcase timepiece based on that with my current budget. I definitely don't want any more connected gadgets. I begrudgingly accept the nigh-unavoidability of smartphones, and I knowingly trade some privacy and security risk for the connectivity and functionality it offers. I don't text a lot, or use much social media on my phone, as a deliberate choice, so I don't need data on my wrist. I also don't use fitness tracking step-counting gizmos. So I have zero interest in a "smartwatch" of any kind now.
I want to use my phone as little as possible, I'm not a slave to it, and so don't like looking at it for the time hence the reason I wear a watch. I've got some nice ones but my Casio Mudmaster is what I wear almost exclusively - Rugged, tells the time and looks ok. That's all I really need.
I don't have a collection of watches (the more expensive ones) 🙂
I always had traditional watches, which were not expensive, 150-250e...
A few years ago, when smart watches entered the scene, I did not attach any importance to them, however, when I received the first one as a gift, and put it on my hand, I found out that it has great utility for me.
Since I don't have expensive traditional watches, wearing a watch has never been a matter of prestige for me...
I needed to know what time it was, not to look at where the sun was.
And for that reason, it doesn't matter to me whether I wear a classic or a traditional watch. and how my smart watch serves as an alarm (when I started using it, I stopped turning on the alarm clock), as a notifier of incoming calls, when my phone is not at hand (I'm not one of those people who don't let the mobile phone drop from my hand), even as a weather forecast or sleep quality indicator, stress level indicator and exercise assistant, it has become a must on my wrist...
Can you tell the time by the position of the sun?
On a clear sky, +-1h
But when I wake up at night (need to go to the toilet) then it's not worth looking at the sky...😄
Then I look for some device with a clock (cooker, air conditioning system...) or I look at my smart watch that I wear even while sleeping. I never wore a traditional watch in the house. I don't take off this smartwatch...
I wonder how things would go for people if we didn't have watches, clocks and phones and instead had to tell the time by the sun. Might be chaos.
Probably 🙂 t
Then we would probably wait for each other a lot more...
Considering the orientation of individuals, who know to say: "Left, left. Not that left, the other left", referring to the right, I believe that their 10 in the morning would actually be 2 in the afternoon 🤣
(I'm currently writing a post on the subject of time, I just need to find an adequate picture and post it - now you've given me an idea, only the sundial doesn't record the minutes 🙂)
Good luck with your post, I hope you find the right picture.
Thanks. I think i made it 🙂
I'm actually one of those people that don't usually wear watches. I use a smartwatch when exercising to take note of my steps and other data. I do have traditional watches which I usually wear when I'm going to an event to complement what I wear. But for day to day, I don't wear any, and just rely on my phone if I need to know the time.
I hate looking at my phone so don't want to look at it to tell the time...a watch works fine.
I don't like to wear unnecessary things. Only clothes, keys and iPhone. Until the 2000s, I wore a watch, but now it is a useless attribute for me.
More for me then. ✅
Haha I don't wear watches. I am the guy that just refers to my phone for the time! :/
Yeah, I figured.
Very interesting article and good afternoon for today.
A good afternoon indeed.
The truth is that I prefer traditional watches to smart watches, I have 3 of them, they have all been beautiful gifts, fine and elegant, simple but not smart.
The first link doesn't work but I wanted to see the site hahaha
The second one I went to and they are nice and modern watches, but I prefer those that you have and of which you make beautiful pictures. Now I tell you that if your partner reads this he already knows, she knows what you want hahaha.
I don't usually wear watches, but not to look at my phone, I don't even wear bracelets, you are free on my wrists, I don't know if I understand, as if they bothered me hahaha.
My partner is not a 'he'. Weird that you say so.
No.... it's not him... it's her.... I'll check the translation.
My mistake, sorry
