Yep, and I had to dig in to understand what’s going on.
For those unfamiliar, Hidden Rush Deception is a deck built around creatures with the Hidden ability, which prevents opponents from attacking them directly for a while. The idea is that you can develop your board with minimal interference and then, when they least expect it, explode with direct damage to your opponent's face. The problem is that this kind of strategy tends to struggle against decks with board-wide removals something quite common in the higher ranks.
So, how did this deck manage to shine?
The Secret Lies in INFLUENTIALWAVERULER’s Build
They brought a well-tuned version of Hidden Rush, keeping the core strategy intact but adding some unexpected cards that gave the deck an extra push. Of course, the deck’s foundation remains the same, with cards like Pietro, Merry Bandit and Shade Walker. But the real twist came with the inclusion of Countess Delapore and Gama, Lord of Berries. And that’s where things get interesting.
How Does Hidden Rush Deception Work?
The deck's concept is simple:
You want to establish a strong presence of Hidden creatures early in the game, applying constant pressure while your opponent struggles (and fails) to deal with them. Your goal is to speed up the game as much as possible and seize every opportunity to close it out quickly.
At the start of the match, you want to ensure your low-cost creatures enter the board and remain Hidden. Pietro, Merry Bandit and Shade Walker are perfect for this. They naturally have Hidden and start dealing damage right from the beginning. Pietro, in particular, is excellent because he can provide some board control (by summoning two random War creatures) while also granting Hidden to everyone.
How to Play Hidden Rush Efficiently
I like to follow this "blueprint" when playing:
- Look for cheap creatures to start applying pressure from Turn 1. Switch Duelist and Armor Lurker are great choices.
- The deck is fast and needs to finish the game before the opponent stabilizes. Use Hidden to scale your creatures by increasing their attack with spells, setting up a risk-free finishing blow.
Pay attention to your opponent.
- If they have a lot of board-wide removals, play patiently. Maintaining constant board presence is better than losing everything at once. Frontline is your worst nightmare, especially when your opponent keeps dropping them.
- Decks that heal or play defensively can completely ruin your strategy. End the game quickly before they get too strong.
One example from my match today:
In just four turns, I managed to bring my opponent down to 9 HP, using only one creature, followed by spells and Hidden.
Final Thoughts
Hidden Rush Deception is a fun, explosive deck that, as we can see, still has room to surprise. What INFLUENTIALWAVERULER did was take a well-known concept and add a twist that allowed the deck to remain competitive even at the highest levels of play. A resposta tá na build de um jogador chamado INFLUENTIALWAVERULER.
Ele trouxe uma versão bem ajustada do Hidden Rush, mantendo o core essencial da estratégia, mas adicionando algumas cartas inesperadas que deram um gás extra pra lista. Claro que a base do deck continua a mesma, com cartas como Pietro, Merry Bandit e Shade Walker. Mas o cara inovou ao incluir Countess Delapore e Gama, Lord of Berries.
