this nightwalking proved to be very productive, although i was far from thinking that at first. this picture above was the last picture of the night taken in the ueno entertainment area. it was in the "entertainment" area, there were so many people offering all sorts of "services" on the streets. i don't know how japan can be so open on stuff like this, if you know what i mean. let me recall the night a bit.

Otahimeinari Shrine

it all started with a quest to a snowman fair supposedly held in ogawamachi. noticed the "supposedly" intentionally added in that previous statement? i went to the "supposed" venue but it was all empty. nothing, not even lights. the park was as dark as the night. i guess the "news" i saw was incorrect. i did saw this small shrine at one corner, small shrines like this one in the middle of tall buildings are just too common in japan.

i decided to walk aimlessly around the are. apparently, i was here before when we were looking for snowboard stuff in the summer of last year. it was here where some of my friends bought their snowboard gears. this whole stretch of road is just full of snow sports related shops, no wonder the snowman fair had a connection to the place. i may have gotten the wrong date for that event, sadly. oh memories!

with nothing else to do, i started heading back home. i passed by some big university buildings and noticed some familiar buildings again. i was here with two other friends while enjoying some pineapple parfaits. that was also in one summer, i recently met one in the snowboard trip two weeks ago and the other one is already back in the philippines. we initially came for peaches but those were in limited amounts only. back then, i waited for them in one of the seats in this place. oh memories! (yet again)

i finally came by ochanomizu station by the kanda river. it was just so pretty looking at the buildings with the passing train and the river down below. there is something so dramatic, or is it just me. i guess simple scenes fascinates me at this point. yes, amazing views get me but so does simple ones. either my taste has changed, or i am just in a different state now, or i am just getting old.

Kanda Myoujin Shrine back side entrance

i passed by this area earlier the night but i barely noticed it. now on my way home i clearly saw that this was the back side of the kanda myoujin shrine. i could still remember these steps, very well lit, but in a very inconspicuous place. if i were not following a map back then, i would never have stumbled upon this place. who would have thought that this would lead to a shrine up there? it just blended so well with the office building beside it. oh memories!

it just amazes me how my nightwalks led me to discover new connections with the different locations. in my head, i can only think that ochanomizu was far from home, but now that i have been there on foot i know that it was not the case. it only took a little more that 7k steps to reach the area, very manageable if you ask me. my idea of distance has greatly shrunk, what i thought previously was "far" are now somehow "near". none walkers will probably doubt my "near" from now on. but when i say "far", that would probably mean a 3 hour trek one way.

as always, AMPING KANUNAY!

I’m surprised to hear that parts of Japan have “ entertainment areas”……
I had no idea this was prevalent in Japan 😮

oh it is. mostly in major cities.

I guess that’s not surprising. It’s that way it over here in the states as well……🙄
