Welcome my dear infected travelers of the internet and thank you very much for having made a temporary stop in my post, I have many films on my to-do list so it is not strange that on more than one occasion I forget the reason why I wrote a movie there in the first place, the film that brings us together today fits perfectly with the description I just gave you since it is not the same as the one that I have just given you. I didn't have the slightest idea why "When Evil Lurks" was on that list, the fact that it was Argentinian and that it was horror was all that was enough for me to get down to work and see what it had to offer. Without further ado, prepare to prevent the birth of a demon, for we are about to begin.
Bienvenidos mis queridos viajeros infectados del internet y muchas gracias por haber hecho una parada temporal en mi post, tengo muchos filmes en mi lista de pendientes por lo que no es raro que en más de una ocasión se me olvide la razón de porque anote una película ahí en primer lugar, la cinta que hoy nos reúne encaja a la perfección con la descripción que les acabo de dar puesto que no tenía ni la más remota idea de porque estaba “When Evil Lurks” en dicha lista, el hecho de que fuese argentina y que fuese de terror fue todo lo que me basto para poner manos a la obra y ver que tenía para ofrecer. Sin más que agregar prepárense para impedir el nacimiento de un demonio pues estamos por comenzar.

The soundtrack manages to generate that feeling of discomfort in more than one moment, so it fulfills its objective of excellently accompanying the different situations of tension that the film harbors.
La banda sonora logra generar ese sentimiento de incomodidad en más de un momento por lo que cumple con su objetivo de acompañar de forma excelente a las diferentes situaciones de tensión que alberga el filme.
The construction of the world is designed to be composed of dark scenarios with movements and shadows in the background that make the viewer put himself on the edge of his seat for the intrigue, this gives us a quite interesting scenery and with various elements that make it stand out, the above is also supported by pleasant camera angles that fit very well. In the face of the society that poses this is contradictory at some points, from the beginning it makes it clear that those infected by evil are not a new issue and that in fact they have systems to face them so it is absurd that in some cases they treat the issue as a superstition, it is not something that terribly affects the plot but it is a mistake to highlight.
La construcción de mundo se encuentra pensada para estar compuesta por escenarios oscuros con movimientos y sombras de fondo que hacen que el espectador se ponga al filo del asiento por la intriga, esto nos da una escenografía bastante interesante y con diversos elementos que la hacen destacar, lo anterior también se sustenta en ángulos de cámara agradables que encajan muy bien. De cara a la sociedad que plantea esta es contradictoria en algunos puntos, desde el vamos deja claro que los infectados por la maldad no son un tema nuevo y que de hecho tienen sistemas para enfrentarlos por lo que resulta absurdo que en algunos casos traten al tema como una superstición, no es algo que afecte terriblemente la trama pero si es un error a destacar.
The plot has its ups and downs but broadly speaking, it feels like it has a pretty solid structure by sticking to the fact of telling a story and adding elements that complement it, in turn, it has as a positive point the fact that it is scary at times (I think it's terrible that I have to clarify this in this type of film but hey). Narratively the film is competent, it knows how to work its initial problem in a good way in order to make it look interesting, although at some moments it depends on the idiocy of some characters to advance the plot this happens little so it is not so disastrous, its suspense scenes are good and it hosts quite unpleasant scenes so both aspects are covered in a good way. The duration is a success, throughout the minutes it is allowed to appreciate how everything begins to gradually go to hell with various events that show how progressively everything is sinking, the latter makes the film not feel bored at any time and that it is not clear if the day can be saved or not, In addition, it has several twists that are based on elements that are shown throughout the film, so it requires a medium level of attention to understand them, which ends up giving it an even more interesting character.
La trama tiene sus altibajos pero a grandes rasgos esta se siente con una estructura bastante sólida al apegarse al hecho de contar una historia e ir añadiendo elementos que complementen a la misma, a su vez, tiene como punto positivo el hecho de que de miedo en algunos momentos (Me parece terrible que tenga que aclarar esto en este tipo de filmes pero bueno). Narrativamente el filme es competente, sabe trabajar su problema inicial de buena forma a fin de hacerlo lucir interesante, si bien en algunos momentos depende de la idiotez de algunos personajes para hacer avanzar la trama esto sucede poco por lo que no es tan nefasto, sus escenas de suspenso están bien y alberga escenas bastante desagradables por lo que ambos aspectos están cubiertos de buena forma. La duración es un acierto, a lo largo de los minutos se permite apreciar como todo comienza a irse paulatinamente al infierno con diversos sucesos que evidencian como progresivamente todo se va hundiendo, esto último hace que el filme no se sienta aburrido en ningún momento y que no quede claro si se podrá salvar o no el día, además, tiene varios giros que se basan en elementos que se van mostrando a lo largo del filme por lo que exige un nivel medio de atención para entender estos, lo que termina dandole un caracter aun más interesante.
I would say that this is the weak point of the film, the above is due to the fact that its characters lack an exploration that allows us to know them in a moderately decent way, being that only a few facts are known about them, although they do not have any kind of characterization it is easy to empathize with them especially when they reach their breaking point due to the horrible situation they must face, This doesn't make them memorable, but at least it makes them feel a little more human.
Diría que este es el punto flaco del filme, lo anterior se debe a que sus personajes carecen de una exploración que permita conocerlos de forma medianamente decente siendo que solo se conocen algunos pocos datos de los mismos, si bien no tienen ninguna clase de caracterización es fácil empatizar con estos sobre todo cuando llegan a su punto de quiebre por la situación tan horrible que deben afrontar, esto no los hace memorables pero por lo menos los hace sentir un poco más humanos.
When Evil Lurks has some stumbles but broadly speaking, it manages to be quite pleasant and decently fulfill its objective of building a horror and suspense story that is interesting to watch because of the twists it has, the latter are not the most complex in the world although they still enrich the film in a moderately good way. It is for all of the above that it deserves 3.5 stars out of 7, I have seen few Argentine films and so far all of them have left a good taste in my mouth as did the present film.
When Evil Lurks tiene algunos tropiezos pero a grandes rasgos logra ser bastante agradable y cumplir de forma decente con su objetivo de construir una historia de terror y suspenso que resulta interesante de ver por los giros que tiene, estos últimos no son los más complejos del mundo aunque igual enriquecen de forma medianamente buena a la cinta. Es por todo lo anterior que merece 3.5 estrellas de 7, he visto pocos filmes argentinos y hasta el momento todos me han dejado un buen sabor de boca como lo hizo el presente filme.
