Jump to yesterday’s seminar that I had attended in Singapore which is organized by Seiwajyuku of Singapore. Founded by the well-respected entrepreneur and philanthropist, Kazuo Inamori, the school of thoughts spreading the philosophy of business and management had spawned in 90 over countries. To be honest, the whole event was not that satisfying as some of the speakers were not well prepared and only read their script fully (some without even facing the audience). They also had us watch 1 hour of video by Kazuo Inamori which I just dozed off after a few minutes. Nonetheless, there were some amazing speakers which shared their entrepreneurial journey (one is from Taiwan and the other one from Guang Dong), both were equally impressive and inspiring.
The highlight of the philosophy is about doing what is right as a business owner. In overall, it is about the skill of giving. The more we can give to others, the more we can receive later on. This is not about charity but empowerment that businesses are well versed with. The Taiwan entrepreneur who had founded 4 food and beverage brands that now has around 100 over staff managing the shops. The businesses are empowering teenagers and young adults with an underprivileged family background like a single mum, single dad, orphan and living in poverty. Besides, the management structure also focuses on senior leading the junior so that both can elevate their roles in the company. This had diminished the culture of bullying between senior and junior staffs. The business also ensures that the staffs are well taken care of in terms of living quality like accommodation, meals, physical health, mental health and skill improvement. The vision of the business which is to bring a healthy lifestyle through food to the people is something I am moving forward too and would definitely want to contribute in near future.
The other entrepreneur who is a strong figure of female that inspired me is a lingerie brand in Guang Dong, China. Her business is now around 100 over branches and she even rebrands her business to appeal more to the young generation. She shared her business journey on how she evolved from a solo businesswoman to a multiple business owner that can help more people while doing what she loves. She also emphasizes that giving is important to make her partners felt the love and care. Of course, it must be sincere and should be done with a personal way too. I admired on her resilience and also thick face mindset that no matter what challenge comes to her, she always had her way to work around. Besides, she emphasized that being a yesman is always much more interesting to reject things, as opportunities always come when we embrace something.
Here are 12 principles that the seminar highlighted on the teaching by Kazuo Inamori:
- Having clear vision and purpose for your career
- Set solid goals
- Have strong passion
- Commit more than the average
- Maximizing sales income and minimizing operation cost
- Positioning is a form of management
- Resilience and consistency in management
- Influential role that spread the passion
- Courageous in facing the challenge
- Consistently be creative and innovative (embrace changes)
- Be truthful and sincere to others
- Optimism with dream
It is not that hard to go through the principles but to implement them with ease, it needs a lot of effort and discipline. I also found that being in a business realm, it is important to surround ourselves with positive people that can support us. We have more than enough challenge, headache and negative emotion from managing the business, which we do not need any more from friends and family. Nonetheless, having our family and partner to understand what we are doing also requires patience and skill. This is something that can be learned through understanding psychology and think in each other shoes.
Well, there goes my Sunday. A tiring one but full of positivism. Now, it is very near to the end of the year and the time has come for me to review all my resolutions and restructure my planning for 2019 to achieve more!
