It was an honour to perform in that amazing Symphonic Hall

in Q Inspired-by-Music10 months ago

More than a week has passed since a significant event that happened to me and the choir I play with. I assume that it was of the same importance for the other two choirs that participated in this meeting of choirs, in the city of Alicante. The concert was held in a modern building, ADDA, Auditorium of the Alicante Provincial Council. Unfortunately, I didn't take a picture of the exterior of the building because upon arrival we immediately parked in the inner parking lot, and later we were too focused on the event itself, so it didn't even occur to me to leave the building. Anyway, if you see it from the street you will see a huge building with quite minimalistic contemporary architecture.

What happened inside is more interesting. At first, we waited for all our colleagues to arrive. This time we didn't have a bus for the members of the choir. We went by car. Although the cars tried to form a little convoy on the highway, in the city it was already more difficult to follow each other. That's why we didn't arrive at the same moment. The waiting time was not so long though.

I also found cool entertainment - to see these photos of the members of the orchestra, each one holding a photo of a composer. It was an interesting visual composition.

Most of us got together after a few minutes and then we started looking for the changing room and later the entrance to the hall for the sound check. From one corridor to another, and they were all the same!

IMG_20240115_081442.jpg

In the end, it was not so difficult to find the changing room for the ladies. It was a huge changing room, of course as designed for a choir - with lockers, benches, mirrors, showers and with a surprise. Something that should not be there. No, not a man. Later the ladies anyway went to the changing room of the gentlemen {oops?} but to warm up the voices, to have a little pre-rehearsal. So, that thing that was not supposed to be found in a changing room was a full bottle of Mistela and a box of butter cookies.

The choir warmed up the voices and was ready for the sound check. We found the Symphonic Hall, still with empty seats but the choir of the University of Alicante was already having the rehearsal. Time to take a few photos.

A few rows of seats. The capacity of this hall is 1,237 seats!

A moment from the rehearsal. The choir and dancers of the University of Alicante were practising a scene from The Prince of Egypt

The beautiful Symphonic Hall of ADDA.

So, the stage is huge, 22 meters wide by 14 deep. And the hall itself is marvellous, you can easily fall in love with it. The ceiling is amazing, made of walnut wood and it perfectly matches the golden colours of the stage and its background.

mipiano_banners_strip_gimp.png
Our turn arrived to try out the sound, the microphones, the piano... Oh, this piano. Did I say you can easily fall in love with the hall? Well, with the piano even more! I am not sure I can find the most appropriate words to describe my satisfaction with this amazing instrument. You know, if you are a pianist you have to adapt to every instrument to get to play. There are good ones and not that good ones. But you have to take out the sound from it in the best way you can.

IMG_20240114_111648.jpg

However, this piano... this one didn't ask for any "effort". I played everything I could have in my mind. A magnificent instrument.

Amazing, outstanding, wonderful, perfect and more of it!!!

IMG_20240115_082002.jpg

When I had a rest from playing and the choir had to sing acapella.

IMG_20240114_193452.jpg

Our rehearsal finished, but some of my scores are still there.

mipiano_banners_strip_gimp.png

We still had some time to prepare mentally ourselves for the performance and finish with the cookies and the bottle of Mistela have a cup of coffee. I asked the wife of one singer from the choir to take a photo of us when we got to perform. We were also in the audience, in the first row, listening to the other choir's performance. The Choir of the Univerity of Alicante opened, with The Prince of Egipt. Here is just one of the scenes.

Their repertory was very interesting and a great performance is what we heard. I had the feeling that it finished so quickly as in the next moment my little choir and me on the piano found ourselves on the scene. I had to start. With energy and impulse. To make the audience listen carefully from the very first note and make them live the scenes we were performing.

I wanted to take my time. The director looked at me but with my gaze I let him know I needed to breathe slowly and deeply for a few seconds more. He respected it and we didn't stop looking at each other. He understood when I was ready and he gave the sign. The music started. And with it the full enjoyment too.

IMG_20240114_152149.jpg

I can't really explain how much I loved to be there.

To perform there, for that audience.

To play on that amazing piano.

To make music with my colleagues.

I felt I could do this every week (every day would be too much adrenaline and I would not be able to sleep anymore). The feeling was so great that it took me many hours to calm down the hyped state and later I just wanted to leave this feeling to rest in my chest, keep it safe and bring back the balance.

There was another choir after our performance, so the concert in total lasted for almost two hours. A bit less, as each of us performed for about 30 minutes. A beautiful experience that we went to celebrate with these other people. We had lunch and after more hours of chitchatting, we had to go home.

It was too much excitement and food and it drained a lot of energy... so I fell asleep in the car while going home (luckily, it was not me who was driving 😁). And it took me more than a week to sit down and try to bring this experience here.

IMG_20240115_082449.jpg

Well, the activities with this choir don't stop. Today, we have a new rehearsal as this Friday we will have another event, not this big and important though. I had to practise yesterday as there is a new piece to be prepared. However, I am happy to be actively involved in the musical life of this little family - our local choir that fights for one thing. To offer their hearts and voices to the audience through music.

I can't really explain how much I loved to be there.

I understand quite well what you say, but not from personal experience, only from the experience of others I have been close to (I worked for a while in two big operas in Romania and saw a lot of rehearsals and performances).

I think this short sentence of yours explains everything that happened. Truly special moments. I'm glad you were so happy. I think it is a reward for your work, so emotional and tiring, but so beautiful!

It was tiring as we worked a lot for this but the feeling you get, as you say like a reward, is absolutely worth all of that effort. I arrived home recently, from another rehearsal, we went through the repertory and added two new pieces. One by Verdi, from the opera Nabucco and another song that I got from the director, like surpriiiiise - 10 minutes of practice and I had to play with them already! It is never boring at my side 😂

Boredom is one of the most unpleasant feelings. Anything that banishes boredom is desirable and I'm sure you're glad you don't have time to be bored.
There is a "dolce far niente" that we sometimes want, but this is something, very necessary for our health.
Our best friend is a piano teacher. She didn't play classical music after graduating from the conservatory because she fell in love with a fellow rocker, they made rock bands in which she played keyboards for about twenty years. Now, in her sixties, she gives piano lessons.
I've seen her on several occasions reading a score for the first time and found it quite difficult. So I understand what it was like when you had to play after only ten minutes of practice!

Oh, that is cool that your best friend is a piano teacher now. Sight reading is also fun and a challenge. The thing is to catch the main lines, it can't be played everything perfectly, but the essence. Later, when there is time, it has to be practised of course. For this performance on Friday, it will already be moulded under my fingers :))

I saw how she read the score and it happened as you say. Then follows rehearsals, deepening, and interpretation, each in their style. Very nice! I saw a concert on TV with Daniil Trifonov. Extraordinary. He played the whole concert without a score. Sounds superhuman.

Big stage, you survived!
(aplauz)

I can bet adrenaline is still hitting 😉luckily you wasn't faced with audience, less stressful.

(that piano soook shiny) 😍

Survived 😇
{bowing}

Oh, I was faced when I had to bow and then I saw the full audience and challenged myself - now I will play for all of you :p

That piano... {sigh}

Sad ću ja vama da pokažem kako se svira :D

A znas kako obicno Djokovic pobedi, iz inata. I vice prema publici. E tako. Samo ja na fin nacin 😁

Inat je prepoznat 😂

I can feel your excitement. Undoubtedly, after something like this, it takes time...
I wish you to continue having these moments and living them with intensity.
You are a shining star in our firmament. 🥂😉

Just had a rehearsal with these people, haha, and the excitement is not over, but now for another event! I got one piece by surprise. I had ten minutes to prepare it {no stagnation for my mind} 😂

🙌 felicidad 😜

You deserved to be there!

Thank you. 😇 I can't deny that we worked a lot for this and for sure deserved it but still, it was an honour, and an opportunity that doesn't come every day 🎶

What a wonderful place you show us. It sure was a great opportunity to do and enjoy the art. I am not used to attending such shows but with your narration I can imagine them and would like to attend and take my child to see and learn. Thank you for showing in Hive the beauty of art.

We are more than happy that we could play and sing there, there are no words that can express the satisfaction and magical moments that we felt. And I hope you can get to a concert like this, I am sure there are many in Cuba, it is a country with a lot of talent.

What a beautiful experience, now I understand a little more what an artist feels inside his chest when he has to get ready and go on stage to offer his art. The place is beautiful, I would love to recite my tenths and hear the music of a lute accompanying me ahhh but today I woke up dreamy. Thank you for sharing such a moving experience. Cheers and good luck and come many experiences and adrenaline.

Hmm, the feeling in our chest, right? Though I felt so focused, so 200% for this thing that the stage fear disappeared in those moments. A few deep breaths before I started to play also helped 😇
Thank you, I hope these moments will not stop ;)

What a beautiful experience, how can you not be happy to have been there. That piano is amazing, how beautiful! The stage, the way everything is set up and the place, I loved it.

I insist, how beautiful that piano! Crazy!😍

Happy was a thin word, we completely loved the whole experience. And the piano, indeed so beautiful but moreover how it listened to me and the slightest touch. I was like in a dreamland haha

I imagined you were in paradise doing what you love where time and space don't exist, that's wonderful.❤️

Exactly this way!

🤗🤗🤗🤗

It must be so nerve racking to perform on that beautiful stage in front of such a large audience, though I imagine you will not notice anything else once you are intertwinned with your beloved piano. Congrats on a successful performance!

Thank you 😊
We worked a lot for this performance, and not just on the musical part. It was a huge mental preparation to overcome every little possibility of stage fright and offer the best of us. To give all and more than we think we can 😉

I love music concerts and choirs..and piano too of course jajaja..that Hall looks incredible and there are something difficult to discribe by writing: The sound in the hall...I am sure it was marvelous...

Yes, it is not easy to describe with words, the sound and the feelings one can have while listening to a concert or while playing on the stage. Sometimes we express ourselves through our art more than with words :))

Impressive friend, how nice that you have lived that experience. The photograph of the piano and the one from the back of the symphony hall are luxurious, as well as the last one of the glasses, I loved it. This is what we take with us in our memories when we die, the good memories, that's why we have to spend our lives doing what we like without looking back or listening to what people will say. From your words I could feel how meaningful it was for you.

Thank you. The hall itself was amazing, and then when I tried the piano - wow! The glasses hahaha, it was the fun part 😂🤐
Nice memories will stay about this day, no doubt! :)

That looks like an amazing experience. I’m now wishing I never gave up playing the piano as it’s such a beautiful instrument! I’ve always loved music and I would have loved to hear you play.

You played the piano and gave up on it? Well, it is never too late to start over! We never know, maybe there will be opportunities to hear me playing, your aunt listened to a small, casual hive piano concert in Krakow last year 😉

Yeeeeeeessss!!!... Big applause for our great teacher @mipiano!!!!... #Hive is full of talent!.... Good for you dear friend!

Hive is full of talent, that is true! :)) I am responding right now to the comment of one awesome photographer, maybe you know him, he was listening to some loud music in his youth :D

Thank you dear @jlinaresp 😊

Awwww.... Thank you for making me blush very early in the morning!... :)) You are a bright sun dear friend @mipiano!...

PS: In my defense, besides AC/DC, IRON MAIDEN and "similar things"... I also listened (and still listen frequently) to Haynd, Bach and others :))

I send a big hug and blessings to you and your family, thank you always for being there!

That's such a big stage! Must be such a unique experience to be up on it rather than on one of the chairs from the audience as most of the people get to test in their lives :)

It is always a special feeling to play in front of an audience, especially if the piano is this great and the stage is a beautiful one like this.

We definitely got very inspired by this opportunity! 😇

The feeling was so great that it took me many hours to calm down the hyped state and later I just wanted to leave this feeling to rest in my chest, keep it safe and bring back the balance.

Awesomeness, and that speaks volumes to me... you are a music lover and a musical person indeed !!

I am :p

And how are you? Doing well? I saw some birds that are visiting your yard :)) That's cool!

I am indeed well..... have almost recovered my sense of humor {wan smile} .... my other half is in paradise so that can only make my life more relaxed... but I really wish she would start spending money {even paler smile} .... Hive needs to go to $77777777

have almost recovered my sense of humor {wan smile}

Sometimes we are just a step away from feeling like in heaven, wherever we are if the sense of humour is present ;)

I'd be so stunned if I were present in this auditorium watching this display of delightful performances. The images alone screams magnificence talk more of watching the live show. This was lovely to read. Your images are beautiful too. Lots of love💜

The whole event was so nice, I am sure you would love seeing it. Well, at least I enjoyed it a lot 😇 Thank you for your visit, @teknon!
