Smoke from the distance

We heard the sound of these two planes for most of the afternoon. They flew over the entire area, making circles. At first, we thought they were seaplanes, before we saw them up close because, at the same time, we noticed thick smoke coming from the direction of the mountain. There was a clear sign that the fire had engulfed a larger area, most probably it was a forest fire. When the planes flew a little closer to us, we saw that they were ordinary planes. They did not take part in extinguishing the fire, but it seemed they were on an investigation mission to see if the fire was spreading and how strong the wind was, from which direction it was blowing, etc. to be able to see the risk and development of fire.

Forest fires are not uncommon in Spain, but they mostly happen in summer, when temperatures are high and forest vegetation is very dry. A small spark of fire is enough and the problem has arisen, burning the vegetation and natural habitat of animals.

It is up to everyone to take care of their environment and act with a mature approach when it comes to outdoor activities and picnics and lighting a fire there. Which, btw, is strictly prohibited.

How each of us behaves is not only a matter of personal desire. Each one of us sets an example for others. It is not that the main motive to act in a certain way is because of that - just to show an example, but also because of the real motive why you will refrain from lighting a fire and preparing for example your Sunday barbecue on a picnic - to avoid disasters for nature like this. Not to mention the seemingly insignificant act of throwing a cigarette butt on the ground... or intentionally starting a fire. I never understood that.

You see that the smoke and the small planes accompanied our whole walk. The wind was blowing so the smoke over the mountain was also getting a different shape. It seemed to be less intense, but actually, the whole sky became cloudy and grey.

One of the many moments when these two planes flew over our heads. And there were quite a few times, but I didn't take pictures of them every time.

Quickly. The plane is escaping behind the trees and houses!

The impressive Sierra de Bernia looked like a volcano, with this smoke. Anyway, I stopped taking photos of it after some point as it was not a nice scene to think about. But all finished well, the next day the fire was extinguished and the smoke disappeared, thanks to the firefighters who worked on it.

As we were walking between the orange plantations I spotted some little seeds, bugs and bees on the orange flowers.

Here they made their way into this post, under a the sky covered with smoke from the distance.

About forest fires in your country... Are they a common problem and are people around you acting responsibly about setting fires where it can cause damage?

Sort:

In this part it's more or less the same as there... but in Argentina it is even worse, there are many fires and controlling them is complicated and there are many losses. it is unfortunate that people are not aware of the seriousness of the matter.

I love the orange plantations, what a beautiful view!😍

With a bit of precaution, many of them can be avoided...

Yes, the orange plantations, they are like a green sea :D

If people became aware... the reality would be different. Thank you for those orange trees!

In Cuba, forest fires also tend to occur, they are more common in times of drought. According to data published by the Forest Ranger Corps, more than 90% are caused by human activity...sad fact. There is much to be done to generate awareness and responsibility.

Hace mucho que no veía una plantación de naranjos tan linda...que ricas las naranjas...y las mandarinas!! 😋😁.

90% are caused by human activity... sad indeed. This can be changed just if the awareness is spread and the habits change.

I am happy you can see now this nice orange plantation. We walk many times here, so in one walk we see the blues from the sea and the green from the orchards 😇

Hermosa combinación de paisajes y colores 😊

Very common thing in my country. A few weeks ago a homeless person under a bridge in my locale set up a camp fire that got out of control it burnt mostly all the vegetation and charred some of the trees in a forest area. The fire department was monitoring and set there own fires to control it. It went on for about a week and the area was very smokey and smelley. It's amazing cause the area looks mostly the same prior to the fire now except for the charred trees. All vegetation is back and green..

Oh, that is unfortunate. The smell of burnt things and also trees stays for some time. When I drive to one of my gigs, there is an area of forest that suffered a forest fire some months ago. All black trees now, and it seems that the cause was a heater from one house.

Oh boy... the fire season has started :/

It started. So early, right? What will be in August 😐

I don't even wat to think about it :|

Then let's not think about it 😁

It looks like a cloud if I haven't read it was a smoke shape due to wind. Well, people are responsible here if they see any such kind of disasters

Good to add the orange plantation... Nice ending 👏

Yes, it somehow looked like a cloud but it was smoke... 🔥
Well, less disaster would be with just the cloud haha

Thank you 😉

That plane looks cute. I think this is my first time seeing a full orange plane. Love the pictures!

Forest fire is really devastating, it's more devastating if a human is also part of the reason why it happen, in some cases it happen I think 🤔, maybe 🤔. It's unfortunate if it just happened and the affected area will be also in a devastating state in the end. I think I heard a few cases of forest fire in Philippines and it's too sad just to watch the news spread about it.

It is sad that so many fires are caused by people, both through negligence, but mostly intentionally. It must be a disease or a lack of empathy.
There are not many forest fires in Romania, but it seems that this will change soon because the climate is getting drier and hotter.
