Around Bosnia and Herzegovina no. 2 – Prijevor i Maglić

I had never been to Bosnia and Herzegovina before this trip and I didn't know much about the country either. All I knew was that Bosnia and Herzegovina is very mountainous, but the vastness of the mountains we found there exceeded my greatest expectations. We didn't have many attractions planned for the next day of our trip. Actually, there was only one goal for that day, but it was a very ambitious one, namely the pass or glade (I'm not sure what to call it) Prijevor. Which is located directly under the highest peak in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mount Maglić.
Maglić is 2,386 meters above sea level and is located in the southeastern part of the country, in the Sutjeska National Park in the Dinaric Alps and is a border peak with Montenegro.

The whole adventure begins on the M20 road leading to Gacko. A few hundred meters after the settlement of Tjentište, located at an altitude of about 600 meters above sea level, at the bottom of the Sutjeska river valley, we turn left onto an inconspicuous narrow road leading us more than a kilometer up, because the end of the climb is located in the Prijevor clearing located at an altitude of about 1700 meters above sea level. About halfway up the climb, we stopped at the "Dragoš Setlo" viewpoint. From this place, there is a magical view of a very high waterfall and the primeval forest covering the surrounding hills. The primeval forest growing in this area is one of the last two preserved primeval forests in Europe. This area is dominated by beech forests and coniferous forests with the Bosnian pine native to these areas. After reaching the top, we were very lucky because these were the last moments before sunset, the so-called golden hour in photography. The view was fabulous and the only thing that really bothered us was the incredibly cold, strong and piercing wind, which meant that after 5 minutes spent outside the car you were completely frozen. We were very impressed by the fact that the summit can be reached not only by off-road vehicles, as we did, but you can also get there effectively by passenger cars, you just had to not worry too much about your suspension.

What a beautiful route! I am usually a fan of discovering such paths by walking/hiking rather than with a car but some adventures seem so nice for these activities as well! Thanks for sharing your experience with us!
