Week of 10/22/18 to 10/28/18

Well, we skipped last week as I took the day off and felt the need to recharge my batteries. So, we're back from week 8 and onto week 10. A couple of nice sales this last week and perhaps oddly a lot German domain extensions (.de). Not sure what's going on there...

Anyway, here's the Top 20 Domain Name Sales For Last Week that have been recorded by namebio.com

Domains with History

Number 2 on the list (nfc.com) has a recorded sales history. It sold for $77,952 dollars on May 5th, 2015 at Sedo. That's a loss of $445 dollars in 2 years. This is a surprising loss to me, and I wonder if the seller needed the money and was willing to take a loss. To me this is a great domain name and although it sold at a small loss, I think it could have sold for a lot more if the seller had more patience and time to wait. Sometimes this isn't the case or people get into a jam and need to liquidate.

Number 7 (cashbackcards.com) has a sales history. The domain sold for $2,700 dollars on April 7th, 2012 at NameJet. That's a gain of $11,800 in about 6 and a half years. I'd take that kind of return all day.

Number 8 (libel.com) has a sales history. The domain sold for $9,999 USD on January 22nd, 2011 at Sedo. A gain of $2351 over about 7 and a half years. This is a small gain over a long period of time, but still a profit.

Number 13 (lovee.com) has a sales history. The domain sold for $6,451 dollars on January 8th, 2016 at DropCatch. That's a gain of $3,161 dollars over almost 3 years. Not bad!

Finally, number 20 (grills.de) has a sales history. The domain sold for $6,521 dollars on February 2nd, 2011 at Sedo. That's a loss $952 dollars over almost 7 years. I'm not surprised at this loss as I don't find .de domains to be a great investment. That said, this could have been a lower price that was bundled with the sale of number 4 (grillen.de) and as a result the seller was willing to accept less money. I don't know if that's the case here but these kind of package deals in domain sales do occur.

About the Names

Today's list breaks down to 12 .com domains, 7 .de domains and 1 .org domain. The big oddity as I mentioned earlier was the number of .de domains on this week's list. I'm not an investor in .de domains but hey, maybe I should be.

My favorite domains from this week are without a doubt nfc.com and libel.com. NFC are great western letters and in my opinion you can't really go wrong with legal terms like libel.

Well, that concludes the Top 20 Domain Name Sales for the last week.

Very interesting. I didn’t know you could buy domain names. Don’t even know how to register one in order to sell it....🤣🤣🤣

Domains are digital assets similar to crypto. Registration is the easy part, you can do this anywhere (godaddy, uniregistry, etc.) it's the selling part that is a bit more work. Often it takes time to get the right sale, this could mean sitting on a domain for a several years. My longest wait time to sale has been 4 years and 7 months, but on a total investment of $93 dollars over that time, I ended up selling it for $2,100. Perhaps the hardest part is getting a good name to sell in the first place. That is a process all of it's own... but it's fun! 😉
