Hello and Welcome to my blog.
The chess World Cup is getting more and more exciting with the passing of each round. Super GMs like Hikaru Nakamura and Wesley So already got eliminated and the tournament is becoming much harder. Magnus Carlson took his opponent to the tiebreaks and won the match. It was a hard-fought match but Magnus became came out on top like he usually does.
It was a long day but I had some time assigned to play chess so I did but playing chess late at night is not an easy thing. I found out the hard way and lost many matches.
I played a lot of 3+2 and 3+0 Blitz matches. While I lost many, some on time even after having completely winning position. xD
Position of the Day
Well, I love puzzles and there was a decisive moment that appeared in my game. We are in the endgame with 2 pawns left on each side.
White just pushed his pawn to g4, should you capture back the pawn?
Well, I captured it under time pressure and that was exactly what I shouldn't have done. White king recaptured the black pawn and now there is no way to save the black pawn. The kings are in opposition and the h pawn will be unstoppable.
That was a terrible blunder for me. I had a couple of seconds on my clock, I could have gone Kf3 or Kf4 and it was a dead draw.
Let me share an interesting game with you. It will demonstrate how a passed pawn supported by your pieces is so dangerous.
In the above game, I exchanged all the minor pieces and even though my King was a little exposed, black didn't have enough pieces to attack it and they just ignored the passed pawn supported by a rook and queen. Black had no checks and the pawn was queening soon so they just resigned.
An Ugly Chess Game
At last, I will share one of the most chaotic games that I played, Black gained an advantage out of the openings, but I misplayed it and hanged my bishop at some point which White graciously ignored...lol
I castled short but had to run all the way to b2 to hide from the checks. We ended up exchanging the queens as the time was going really low and I was in no mood to lose on time.
The black knight was a monster and jumped all over the place. The end was very chaotic as we had a couple of seconds each with no increments. We were just making moves at the end. When the dust settled, I had 'a' pawn ready to Queen.
It turned to the majestic Queen and my clock hit 0 seconds. What a way to end the game, I had to satisfy for a draw which could have been much worse too. What a game!!
I took a bad hit on my Blitz rating with this session. Now my rating is 1671. I lost 29 rating points in the last 12 games, which is not a stat I was looking for. I have a target of reaching 1800 and without learning some better openings I don't think I can reach there. I need to work on my endgames as well. I am just horrible at endgames, especially pawns or rook-pawn endgames.
Let me know if you guys have any chess goals or goals in general that you want to achieve in the near future. It would be nice to hear from you all

Until next time...

I really like your pawn support game, man. I used to play chess, but I don't even remember how good I was. I'd like to get back to it sometime.
Chess is brutal man. You play 40 good moves in a row and one blunder will just take the game away...haha
I started playing because I wanted to defeat one of my friends who was good at it and after I become better than him I just no longer player.
