I was working from home today. It feels like I've caught another virus, I had a headache all day long, it didn't prevent me from working but it made it less enjoyable and the day felt longer...
August is the last month of Winter in Australia, you can still usually go skiing up until September. At lunchtime, I went in the garden to get my quota of playing with dirt 😄. The garden looks miserable at this time of the year, especially this year because I spent a lot of my free time on Steem so I didn't plant many winter crops. I also fail to fertilise some of the plants such as the young banana and papaya trees and they were victims of black spot disease. However, I fed the big papaya tree well this year and it seems to have survived the winter very well.
Some other plants such as the Mulberry trees are doing well, they have lost their leaves in early winter but have now started to produce new leaves and even fruits, I know a little boy that will be excited to go in the garden to pick some Mulberries:
I started feeding some plants that seem to start to come back to life with a thick layer of worm compost and some homemade FAA (Fish Amino Acid) diluted in rainwater. In Spring, when the weather will get warmer, I will also start brewing some Aerated Compost Tea.
The Mustard Greens are thriving. I should have planted some lettuce and garlic but I totally forgot about them. It's not too late though, I will try to fix this up this weekend.
The Okra and Malabar Spinach are long gone, I need to clean up their bed and get it ready for Spring:
The Tropical Lettuce Tree is still doing well and we've harvested a couple of times for a nice soup and stir-fry. This one is well positioned and is receiving a good amount of sunlight. The second plant is a bit weak but I believe it will be revived with the warm weather coming soon.
The Aloe Vera plants didn't even realise we were in winter and continue growing despite me neglecting them.
In the afternoon, I got a phone call from someone in the area who wanted to visit my worm farm. He found my website and wanted to visit because he wanted to setup something in his backyard. I received him and gave him a tour of the various worm bins I have and how I use them.
Later on in the evening, I went to another's person place to buy some old stainless steel pots and pans. I wanted them to use on my rocket stove. Using my wife's nice pans is a no go so some old stainless steel ones is a wiser choice 😃. I will test that out and post a little video when I have time. I'm planning to make some classic breakfast with the rocket stove: coffee + fried eggs.

Your aloe vera plants look amazing anh oi! I didn't know they would survive the winter that well. This post makes me want to start doing some gardening after my hike!
Winter in my area of Australia is rather mild, it does not freeze so it seems not too bad for the Aloe plants. And Aloe is nice eating too especially with our Vietnamese desserts: chè đậu xanh for example.
