Summary: Congratulations to the Golden Knights for their 53-7 win over the Vanguards. This brings the football team's season record to 1 win and 0 losses, and according to maxpreps.com, the team is ranked #54 in the state and #1,639 in the nation. This post contains a photo-essay from the game.

Introduction

Opening coin toss

It was rainy all day, so we were worried about the weather, but it cleared up a couple hours before the game. Even though it's still summer time, the stadium, in Aston, PA, had an autumn feeling to it. Neither one of the school bands took the field for the half-time or pre-game performances, so the main topic for this post is football (American football, that is).

I generally don't include the names of other people's kids in these posts, but Rustin's #8, #32, and #42 all had great nights moving the ball. #4, the QB had a good night too with at least one long-yardage touchdown pass. The defense did a great job all night too, giving up only a few first downs for most of the game.

And the post that follows contains a photo-essay from the stands. Rustin was the visiting team, so they're wearing the white uniforms. Click on the photos to expand them.

It's nice to be able to zoom without blurring for a change

Rustin Cheerleading

I managed to get a couple shots of pyramids, but was too slow and focused on the game to get any photos of the back flips. (which were pretty amazing!)

Sun Valley Cheerleading

One of the unique things about last night's game is that the Sun Valley cheering squad came to do a cheer in front of the visitor's bleachers

Not football

We were near the Philadelphia International Airport, so we had a steady stream of planes flying past, and also a news helicopter hovered over the stadium for a time... And of course, I had to get photos of the Sun Valley mascot!

Update: 8/25/19 - NBC 10 has coverage of the game at about 4:08, in this video.

Conclusion

It was a great night out for the football team, and a fun night for the marching band and audience. The team graduated some talented players last year, so we haven't been sure what to expect, but last night's performance shows that they have some great talent stepping in to replace the departed players.

The next game is against Great Valley on August 30, at Rustin High School.
