after he dearly departed into the biggest blue
a shaper created me my goldilocks board
just right
undoubtedly a grief distraction, a father abstraction
carved from years of following him out to sea, jellyfish arms
paddle paddle paddle
the smell of wax, neoprene and brine
had I been foolish: too old, perhaps, too sad?
a few more years before I too am lost with the tide, under the water after the last ride
yet my last wave is not now, or now, or now -
a sting ray flies beneath me and I wonder if it is him
hello ghost dad, I burble into the salt water
the bubbles tell him it is the best board I have ever ridden
his wings clap against the sand and he is gone
With Love,

A big hug to you, it's not easy, but it's good that you can almost feel his presence when you're in the big blue ocean💞Awe @riverflows, what a beautiful poignant poem!
Thanks Liz. X yeah I have some very sad moments but I try to focus on the good stuff.
I like all of the sensory words you put in here. It helped to blend the physical with the abstract. I always cherish the memories I have of loved ones who've gone forward for us. Thanks for being a great member of Blockchain Poets.
Thankyou. I always think that the reader needs the sensory to ground themselves in what the poet imagines, right? Too abstract and we get lost.
A heartfelt poem of remembrance to that being (father) who was lost, but who continues to dwell in our heart and memory. Best regards, @riverflows.
Thankyou
A heartfelt remembrance for a lost soul whose presence mattered in your world. Memories of him never left, and that's the beauty of it all. The fact that he existed and you... not now. You still have a long way to go.
I feel like the end is near haha - I'm probs just being fatalistic
Your poem gracefully depicts how the memories of lost ones don't just vanish. what a beautiful way to describe the reality, time doesn't always take everything away. but it gives hope when it feels they are close to us. I enjoyed reading through.
Thanks. It's hard to articulate how much I miss him.
My father forever remains my first hero, I wish he were here too. They always smile from above, and yes! The last wave isn't now. Thank you for writing!
You're welcome. I'm still in the first six months of grief so it's tricky at times. Miss him so much.
