This past #Beersaturday we went to visit friends in Mariposa California. We often make this trip and love the area, along with a great small local brewery called 1850.
Our friends live on a ranch and I love hiking around the ranch and surrounding area. Often times while hiking I will come across cattle including bulls, which I try to keep a distance from. On one of the hikes I took my two siberian huskies who love to hike.
The black one is a 2 year old male named Timber and the grey one is a year old female named Smokey. Smokey is still young but well behaved. But on this one hike I stopped to take a picture of a larger black bull and Smokey decided to run after the bull. In the following picture as I got the bull in the shot you can see Smokey running after the bull. I had Smokey on a leash and everything was fine. We got a few grunts from the bull as he ran off.
This was the picture I was trying to get before Smokey disturbed the bull.
Since it was #Beersaturday my wife asked where I wanted to go to dinner as the town of Mariposa has many restaraunts and many of them are very good. I told her I wanted to go to the Brewery called 1850. The Brewery is named 1850 because that was the year California became a state. The town of Mariposa was a big part of the California gold rush and therefore played a big part in California's rapid growth to become a state in the United States of America.
1850 is a small brewery located on the main street (Highway 140) which runs directly into Yosemite National Park. 1850 beer can be bought in some of the local stores with limited selection, but mainly the beer is sold inside Yosemite National Park and at the brewery.
Being that the restaraunt can get busy we had to wait about 25 minutes in the bar so I had a red IPA called War Paint. I have had it before and it is good but not as hoppy as I would expect. The War Paint is brewed with Warrior and Columbus Hops and had an ABV of 6.9%. The color is amber with a slight redness to it.
A list of the beers that 1850 brews.
We sat down for dinner and I had another IPA but this one was a rye IPA called War Cry. War Cry is brewed with CTZ, Simcoe, and Mosiac hops and has an ABV of 7.2%. I really like this beer and being that it is brewed with rye grain, you get the rye spice along with the hop flavor. The color is a pale yellow to golden.
When we got back to our friends ranch I had a Shadow Puppets Beer called Kentucky Uncommon which was an amber ale. Shadow Puppets brewery is located in Livermore California and run by an old friend of mine, who back 25 years ago we both brewed homebrew together. I always enjoy Shadow Puppets Beer becuase it taste is similar to my homebrewed beers. The amber ale is easy drinking and beside the typical barley grain, corn and rye are added as grains. With the corn and rye used this beer is slightly sweeter and a little spicier then the traditional amber ale. Kentucky Uncommon has an ABV of 5.8%.
The last night we were in Mariposa there was a nice sunset that I took a photo overlooking some of the ranch.
I hoped you enjoyed your weekend as well and wish you a great week.
