So my roommate bought a bunch of these really big sprinkles, like the ones that are big enough that they are practically hard candies but they don't taste good enough to eat them like hard candies and if you bite into them they're difficult as all get out. In an attempt to make them more edible, and at my roommate's suggestion, I decided to bake them directly in with some cookie dough using my grandmother's tried and true recipe for sugar cookies and....well, it worked. Like, really worked. Enough that I'm sharing the results (and just my grandmother's sugar cookie recipe) so you guys can do it too!

You'll need the following;

  • 2 3/4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup (or 2 sticks) room temperature butter
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

And, of course, optionally the sprinkles. Or chocolate chips or whatever else you want to put in them, these cookies are really a great base vessel for just about any additives :)

Start by preheating the oven to 375 degrees.

Add your flour, baking soda and baking powder to one bowl and put it aside.

In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and sugar. Then add the eggs and vanilla, and slowly add in the dry mix. Stir between each bit until it's all well incorporated, and then dump in any additives you want.

Spray or line your pan and lay out your dough. I have an actual cookie scoop I used and was able to fit 15 cookies to a pan because they're small cookies.

Bake them for 10 minutes in the oven, and when they come out transfer them to a cooling rack.

That's it! This recipe makes about 60 cookies at the size I made them, but your mileage may vary too. It's also a great recipe for rolling out the dough and using cookie cutters, my grandmother makes these every year for Christmas and decorates them with frosting and other toppings that are really yummy.

Experiment success, though. The sprinkles melted into goops of sugar and even when cooled are still goops and thus much easier to eat, plus they add a touch of sweet to the cookies overall. Will be doing this again for other sprinkles we have laying around, after we've consumed all of these XD
