Discovering the hidden gems of Serra Fina

in Worldmappin18 days ago (edited)

Today, I bring part two of my trip to Serra Fina, located in the Serra da Mantiqueira mountain range. Unlike what I shared in the first part, this time we set out by car to explore other waterfalls in the region, which were farther from our campsite.

In terms of distance, they weren’t actually that far, but the access was a bit difficult, requiring trekking. So, we decided to go by car this time to visit as many places as possible.

We woke up early at the campsite and headed toward the Paiolinho neighborhood, located on the other bank of the Rio Verde. This was the same area where the waterfalls I showed in part one were located.

Our main goal was to reach Poço Paraíso, which, as the name suggests—and from what I had seen in photos—was truly a paradise. What made the journey challenging was the road conditions, which didn’t allow for much speed. Rocks and potholes forced us to drive very slowly.
The advantage of driving slowly was that we could take some photos without even getting out of the car and enjoy the landscapes with more calm and attention.

After about an hour on the road, we arrived at the waterfall, only to find the parking lot completely full. So, we changed our plans and decided to visit Andorinhão Waterfall first, located a few kilometers ahead. This waterfall was within a private property owned by a very welcoming couple who greeted visitors and charged a R$10 entrance fee. On their property, visitors could enjoy two waterfalls: Andorinhão and Poço Verde.

Upon arriving at the location and parking the car, we hiked a trail that was quite steep in some uphill sections, leading to the Andorinhão pool. The forest was somewhat dense, and the trail was narrow, which provided plenty of shade even on a day of strong sunlight.

After a few minutes on the trail, we arrived at the pool, and I can say it was one of the most surprising ones I saw on this trip. As expected, the water was extremely cold, but there was no way we wouldn’t get in. Luckily, there were only a few people there, so we could enjoy the water and also take a break for a snack.

Leaving this pool, we headed toward Poço Verde and only now did I realize that I didn’t take any photos of this spot. To reach it we had to pass through the residents' house where I took the photos of that dog and follow a short trail through a bamboo grove.

Now our destination was Poço Paraíso. It’s worth mentioning that the entire landscape along the way was incredibly inspiring, and I took a few more shots on the way to the next pool.

The plan was to wait until later in the afternoon for the place to empty out a bit, but that also meant we had little daylight left to enjoy it. We also hadn’t expected the access to be so difficult. After leaving the car in a parking area at the top of the hill, we had to make our way down a steep descent to reach the riverbank.

The path went through pastures before reaching an area of riparian forest, where at many points we had to hold onto tree roots and a rope left there to help visitors.

The pool itself was indeed very beautiful, but I wished we had arrived with the sunlight still hitting the water, and it’s a shame we didn’t get to see that. It’s hard to be in a new place and want to see everything at once....

As the sun set, the cold started to settle in, and we began the climb back to the car to return to our campsite.

I couldn’t help but notice how the landscape along the path had already transformed, just with the change in light. I took a few more photos of things that caught my attention on the way, like these clouds.

The next day was already our last full day in Serra Fina, and we decided to hike again to Poço Esmeralda, which I mentioned in my previous post, as it was without a doubt my favorite spot of all. The water's color and its almost private feel made it unforgettable.

On the way back, we were caught by a summer rain, but it didn’t interfere with the hike. We were still able to return calmly, and upon reaching the campsite, we visited Poço Preto, which was also nearby (and once again, I forgot to take photos).

I hope you enjoyed this journey and this place, which has already become one of the most beautiful I’ve ever been to.

See you next time.
