A Newbie a Day, Vote and Resteem

in #curation6 years ago (edited)

Some of my followers may have noticed that I have been resteeming some posts that I have found who use the #introduceyourself tag.

This little guy was a newbie to the world once; there are still many newbies joining via Steemit despite the current bad times

I do feel it’s important to welcome new people and make them feel like someone is giving them some attention. It’s not always this case though, and with this post from @spudalicious he seemed to take it all the wrong way and has left before he started!

image.png

I have sent him a response explaining why this has happened but he seems to have been put off right away and may never return which is a shame.

image.png

If the photographs are the property of @spudalicious, then I feel he could add something to the STEEM blockchain in terms of content, and I have no reason to doubt it that they are his.

line.jpg

On to more positive things, @steemalicious did a great intro and her post was getting little attention when I spotted it, voted it and resteemed it.

image.png

While I can’t necessarily take the credit for it being seen and curated by @theycallmedan and some other heavy hitters, I’m sure @steemalicious has been incentivised now to create some more content reading the appreciative response I got from her.

While I have worked hard to get where I am and the rewards I receive for my efforts, I’m still taking the time to use 15 minutes of my time a night to find one promising post and give that person some attention.

I was there once, and I think I can say the same for all reading this.

Another recent find is a runner named @andersdult. Like most, he knows nothing, (a little like Jon Snow), and has posted TWO #introduceyourself posts likely through ignorance.

-BiggerManiac.JPG

Maybe it's the crazed look that is a little similar to my own insane madness that drew me to Anders. That, and the fact that he found about Steemit via a promotion.

What promotion?, Do Steemit do EVER do anything like that?

Sometimes I don't find anything promising in the 15 minutes I take and if this is the case, I will pass and not promote whoever's best, or anything I can find.

While it’s over a year since I posted my own #introduceyourself post, I added several photographs and detailed several of my interests.

If I could do it as a complete novice, then why can't others?

They may all not stick but if we as an active community ignore them all because they can't offer anything back in terms of vote weight, then this aspect of STEEM is not going to grow at all.

Sometimes you can get it Wrong

Yesterday I thought I had found another artist with some promise but it appears my hopes have been dashed when @steemcleaners added a comment to this post just after I gave it a big vote, resteem and used my @minnowsupport vote on it.

image.png

Some investigation by an angry @silviabeneforti has all but confirmed the would be artist is likely a plagiarist. Both Silvia and myself have now recalled our votes, and I feel a little stupid for trying to promote this one.

image.png

We have had no response from @freedesaign, and that speaks volumes. Maybe he has not see it yet, and maybe he has not but the evidence is not looking promising.

image.png

Even so, I wont be deterred from trying to find promising new Steemians and will have another looking tonight just before I crash.

'Are you going to spare 15 minutes of your curation time to see what’s out there in the ‘New’ section of the #introduceyourself tag?'

Try it, give a new prospect who has not been noticed yet, has peanuts in terms of a reward for their post, a vote and resteem, and make yourself known that you are not an automated responder and a real person that is sincere in what you are saying.

You might be surprised how good you feel about doing it.

I really appreciate the value and attention you give to newbies.

So. My second post on Steemit got a visit from Cheetah. I was incensed because it was absolutely material owned by me. I had a dialog with Steemcleaners and the problem was apparent. I had previously posted the material on a 'for pay' website. I own it, but it WAS NOT original. Hard but efficient lesson for me. I have literally hundreds of those posts that I sold as 'single use' and I still use them from time to time-with significant change and properly attributed photos.

Thanks slobberchops. Your efforts are amazing and appreciated.

Interesting, and did @steemcleaners take you the 'cleaners' like they have with some?

Thanks @bigtom13, I do try and help the new ones.

l actually had a good convo with some one there (it was my third day here, I don't remember who. I explained what I had done, they explained why it triggered their bot and every body left happy.

But I didn't publish another one in the 'historical motorcycle' series for months. I didn't want to piss anybody off 'round here. I literally have hundreds of researched bikes, it's a nice bit in my head and to use once in a while.

I have my own steemcleaners story I may tell you sometime. The adrenaline hit of rage from that one nearly made me leave the platform.

You will need to tell me this one! Can’t say I have encountered the in my posts yet. Sounds quite a story.

Wow - Anders Christensen! That is one scary photo. Which makes his account memorable - in the other selfie he has posted he looks great! Lol. I think it's fantastic that you are doing this. Same goes for the SteemFlagAwards effort - well done.
I occasionally try to promote new Steemians, and while some of them turn out to be great, it's so easy to get it wrong when you only have one or two posts to go on.
Looking at your account today shows me how absent I've been from this platform recently. My ML Assessment starts next week, and I've been focusing on nothing else. I had to submit a Home Paper last week, and then I had some more wild camping and mountaineering adventures well out of wifi range. I have so much that I want to share on Steemit, but I'm going to have to put my head down and get organised for the big assessment coming up next week. After May 3rd I will breathe normally again!

I'm going to be quieter from tomorrow as I have a new job. You never know whats gonna happen, and we never have enough time to do everything we would like.

I can see its the same for you.

Another new job! I'm impressed that you manage to fit everything in and keep Steeming.

Congratulations! This post has been chosen as one of the daily Whistle Stops for The STEEM Engine!

You can see your post's place along the track here: The Daily Whistle Stops, Issue 462 (04/22/19)

I have a feeling the fit female youngster will do ok, maybe even pick up a sugar-whale like some of them do.

Now there's a new concept for you!

I am so not in the mood for assignment marking this am. I may have to regroup this pm

Yes, maybe.. I do know what you mean.

I love the way you analyze and report out on these types of topics. #Innovation

Thanks, I try and be different.. keeps people coming back!

15 minutes is well worth the effort as it would bring value to the ecosystem over time as more new users join and begin to engage with the community.

I applaud your work resteeming introductory posts to help newbies out. I have posted on some of them with a quick welcome message as well.

I know I enjoyed it when someone responded to my early posts and made me feel that someone was seeing/reading what I was posting.

Such a great initiative. Sad when people take things the wrong way. This place is a bit confusing to start off with and it is great that people take the time to help newer members out!

Very nice! Great finds. That is too bad that a couple of them had to be bummers like that. It is awesome that you are taking the time to find these great people.

Your efforts are appreciated. We just have to watch out for people abusing the system. I know it can be frustrating for new users struggling to get noticed. I would recommend they do a small introduction when they start and then try to build a following by commenting before doing big posts.

Yes, maybe I’ll keep away from the art peeps, I tend to assume people are genuine.

The standard responses newbies get are different than when I joined. Steemworld was one of them, and now it’s not mentioned.

I'm always impressed by the time and attention you give to new steemians (and older ones). This idea of 15 minutes a day is a really good one. Thanks for putting it my way :)

I seem to be doing a lot of newbie stuff lately. While #tenkminnows is focused on Minnows I’m doing the very basic stuff.

An incentive to make Dolphins would be good. We need more of those.

Posted using Partiko iOS

There was a Dolphin School project once upon a time. I think it was spelled strangely. I can't remember what it was called specifically, but it seems to have died along the way somewhere. You needed to delegate to join, etc., and I think ultimately the effort was just too ambitious. It's not like Steemit makes it easy for anyone to succeed. Jeez, you'd think Ned didn't care at all about this place ... or something.

highly appreciated dude, keep up the effort (and yeah...a good reminder we should all do more with this), and its true...especially for newbies it is needed to get inspired and get some motivation from the 'older' players in there

It’s hard to find good ones, have a look and you will see what I mean!

You will, indeed.
