Recently my foreman and I have been working early in the morning to get more farm tasks done. We start at 5:30am and get a few tasks done for a few hours. And then other days we spend half the day working on longer term projects.
For the first part of the morning its dark, just us and the moon and stars. We use flash lights and the machinery lights to see what we need.
One of the most rewarding things of doing morning work is seeing the sunrises. That pink sky looks so nice.
As the sun comes up more it makes it more easy to attach everything. In this case it was the hay baler. We are moving it under a shed to protect it during the winter months when we will not be using it.
We come back for our next attachment, the rake.
Moving that into the workshop it will stay there until we need it next year after cutting the hay.
Unfortunately disaster struck shortly after. While putting away the last attachment in the workshop the door got hit by the front bucket.
It bent up the door real bad and would not close right, so we had to pin it in place and order a replacement panel. So we are back to doing things by hand until we can get it fixed. We have a small door we can get in through, and a second door over on the other side of the workshop.
That really sucks, we had light in there and all. It may take a month to get the panel. So the door cannot be used. Glad we at least got all the machinery inside. Before it happened, though now it means it has to stay inside until the door is fixed.
Another day of working outside in the morning, this time it is cloudy. It is nice when its clear and we have moon light, as its so bright out in the countryside. But when its cloudy everything is dark. Glad we have some outdoor lights though.
Now we are making a foundation for the covering of the wood furnace. We have to make sure its level across 16 feet where it will be placed. We had around seven inches of difference across that area, so fixing that is important before it arrives.
Another morning of work and another pretty sunrise, looks like the clouds are clearing up and we can see a star poking through the the clouds. Even though its cold we are getting lots done in the morning, wearing the right amount of clothes and knowing how active we will be is key. So sometimes dressing in layers is smart and we find ourselves taking or putting on more clothes as we do different tasks outside. So far the weather has been quite mild, though a bit cold. But glad its not raining constantly, or really windy. So its been nice working outside at night during this autumn.
you really start very early, but watching the sunrise at work must be really nice
It is quite good seeing the sunrise, its always a little different each morning.
Yep, but its okay I dont mind.
I feel sorry for the broken door, or rather the gate.
But unfortunately this happens sometimes, I hope that the new panel will arrive as soon as possible and you won't have to wait so long.
And with my kids, I know something about getting up in the morning.
But if I'm not on duty, I can sleep longer on the weekend if they let me.
Yeah it was such a shame it got broken.
Hah I feel ya, sleeping in is nice when you can. After getting up early for a long time.
I was going to ask, were you driving the tractor?
hehe no it was my foreman that hit it at the time. He was trying to avoid something else in the workshop and ended up hitting something he did not think about.. oops
My wife also gets distracted sometimes and boom I have something to do.🫣

Those early hours of the day are pretty awesome. I always like how 'still' everything is at those times.
If you have to make that door work until the new one arrives... you might be able to cut off (remove) that bent galvanized piece from the top of the panel. It would not be a perfect fix but it should stop the deflection from making the door bind. Hard to tell from the picture if that is the only bad spot but it looks like the culprit.
Cheers!
I know what you mean, its quite peaceful early in the morning.
Ah okay, we got it pinned in real good. I think I will keep it like that until fixed. thanks for the tip though.
How are you dear friend @solominer good morning
Starting work early has many benefits, you can do more tasks, in addition to the cooler weather, and as you mention, you can enjoy the colorful sunrises.
What a shame what happened to the door, and that the replacement panel could take so long.
I hope everything goes well and the replacement paner arrives soon
Have a beautiful Sunday
Good morning, indeed I feel like I get more work done on days I get up early.
Thanks, hope you had a good sunday too.
Starting work early makes you achieve more. I prefer working early to avoid the burning hot sun in my region.
Cheers
Yep I sure do feel like it does that.
In the summer I get up early so I can beat the heat as well. As it gets quite hot here.
The joys of watching the beautiful sunrise, something that I rarely see because I'm a night owl.
Is therefore any special reason you have to start so early in the day?
Sure is, love seeing the sunrises here.
My foreman is helping out at other local farms and ranches, so his day time is usually occupied. He does not mind helping me on my farm in the mornings and nights, we have been making that work so we can continue to get work done here.
Oops.
hehe yeah shit happens
Wow! It's good you started work early. One of the benefits of starting work in the early hours of the day is that, you get work on a lot of task and it gives you some hours to rest as well within the day. I am sorry for the broken door, I hope you fix it soon.
I am a morning person naturally, so it works pretty well for me. Unfortunately I have trouble napping during the day, so usually when I get up I stay up until I goto bed that night. It would be nice if I could nap in the middle of the day but my body does not like doing that I guess.
thanks, much appreciated.
Weather can be so hit or miss in the autumn, glad you are getting some seasonable stuff to make the work a little easier.
It would take me a little time to work up to getting up that early to get the big stuff done. These project must be so motivating as you are building permanent parts of your homestead and life!
Love to see it and be along for the adventure man!
Luckily the weather has been pretty good here, a bit cold but not windy or wet which is nice. It takes me a few days to train my sleep schedule down to going to bed that early.
They sure are, back when I was working for other people getting up early was a lot harder. But now I am building my future along with building a farm with my foreman indeed its quite motivating.
Working in the morning sounds bad, but it is very productive if you feel really fresh. We used to go to the garden with my grandparents at daylight. Of course, I would play and sleep, but they would work with great appetite.
The photos look great too, man!
Well its the only time my foreman is available right now, so I am making it work for us. Nice, I like visiting gardens. I just checked out out in Virginia not too long ago, it was nice.
thanks man
Early morning is the best time to work. I am often up at 4AM, and that's when I compose my posts and edit photos. Being night blind, I couldn't work outside until sun-up.
Bet that accident won't happen again...
Yeah I feel like it is for me. When the weather is too bad outside I tend to work on posts. I find myself drafting up a few at a time when its all day bad weather (as long as my power stays on).
Oh well sounds like you have a good routine.
Hah yeah I hope not.

Beautiful skies you have there buddy. That's definitely one of the perks of being up so early! Sorry to hear that the door got dinged, that really sucks as we get closer to winter. Hopefully you don't get snow before the replacement can be installed.
If the farm is very wide, tractors and other farming machines is very important so that our work will easily done. You're a productive person Sir. 👍👏 Working early is good because we can't really feel heat from the sun.
