Everyone has that one food they make or order that just gives them that one thought and feeling, home, sweet home. Hands down, the best way to enjoy comfort food is to make it yourself or especially by a loved one but for some it is just that one take out food that gives them that feeling. There's so much food that hits that spot for me! I'll give you a few examples.

Fresh Salsa. I know what you're thinking. This isn't warm, gooey, all the characteristics of a blanket in a dish. Hear me out. My mom made the best fresh Salsa when I was a kid. I feel like one key ingredient to comfort food is nostalgia. So yes, fresh salsa makes the list for me. I just made some the other day and it's just the best. I made what feels like a whole bucket full. I haven't kept with my mom's ingredients because I like to experiment. So this one had carrots and daikon radish mixed with onions, tomatoes, lemon and lime juice and zest, and of course cilantro. It's amazing with the carrot and radish! Very crunchy.

Spaghetti. This is my all time favorite food to make and no two sghetti experience is the same, lol. Sometimes I make a veggie sauce but most of the time I make a nice meat sauce. For my son I keep it simple with plain sauce so I want to try to make the sauce from scratch. We shall see. Oh, and always top my sghetti with cheddar cheese, not parmesan because chedda is betta. 🤷‍♀️

Japanese golden curry. The first time I made this dish I fell in love with it. It's creamy, spicy, deliciousness that goes perfectly with some hot fluffy rice. Usually I make it with potatoes, bell peppers, and carrots plus a meat of choice. It takes a bit more work but the bestest way to enjoy this dish is poured over that rice and topped with a golden crispy katsu style chicken. This is a special dish for me that really boosted my spirits when I was struggling with a deep bout of my depression. It was so cheap and easy to make. It's not everyone's cup o tea though. If you don't like curry spices or rich, creamy stews, this is most definitely not for you.

BBQ. BBQ errthaaaang. Ribs, wings, fried or grilled. Smothered in sauce. Oh yes, this all started as a young buck when I had my first taste of KFC, limited edition, honey BBQ chicken wings. From then on, I was hooked. I now make my own kind of wings that are double fried, sweet and spicy. I don't know ant culture that doesn't love BBQ. Nuff said.

Last but not least! Lumpia! Lumpia is a type of roll that can be fried like an egg roll, or fresh and smothered in a sweet brown sauce. All versions of lumpia must be tried at least once! This is a huge comfort food item on my list because it means the most to me. Another childhood favorite.
I remember being 4, my mom bought some fresh lumpia from a street vendor who goes door to door in Philippines and she showed me how to pour the dipping sauce, which was soysauce and vinegar, into the roll by biting the top off first, then it becomes like a pocket. It was seriously the best!

The three types I love are lumpia Shanghai which is a meaty mixture rolled and fried in an egg roll wrapper and best dipped in sweet chili sauce; lumpia sariwa which is fresh lumpia where the insides are prepared then loosely rolled and smothered in a sweet and savory brown sauce; and vegetable lumpia which is fried and best served with a soul sauce and vinegar mix.

That's all I'm going to mention for my favorites. The list is long and includes kimchi. What's that one food(s) that feels like home on a plate for you? I think my list is long because I moved around a lot and developed different tastes and memories in each area. Which reminds me, chilli should be on that list. I just can't fit everything! Tell me yours in the comments section below. I was in a foodie mood if you can't tell 😄 See ya next Tuesday!

BTW I'll never forgive myself if I leave out tacos. Fish tacos, carnitas, and the American crunchy tacos, I love 'em all. Never met a taco I wouldn't eat. Nomnomnom. 🌮

What a great, drool-worthy post! Yum! 😋 My fave comfort foods include Tuna-Noodle Casserole, fresh, hot biscuits, crispy chicken tenders, and Split Pea Soup (with ham or bacon)! I love all kinds of tacos, too, so I am with ya on that! Glad you shared this on PYPT! 💖

Oooh all of those are so delicious! I'm a big fan of split pea soup with ham! I had the best one from a friend, she got it from Whole Foods and it was life changing ❤️ I tried to re-create it but it just wasn't the same. Now that's what I want 😄 thanks for sharing your favorite comfort foods!
