The sky was definitely not as golden as the picture below, but put this is what I see when I put on my prescription sunglasses. A changed view. And hopefully, that is what I will get over the next month and a bit, as today I officially started my vacation! And, while of course I like vacations normally, I am really feeling like I need a proper one for the first time in many years.
And to celebrate, we went to the beach in the evening.
Before the rains come tomorrow.
Typical holiday weather.
But, as I was saying to Smallsteps who was complaining in the morning about the weather changing for the worse in the foreseeable future, We have to fit our actions to the conditions, because we are unable to change the conditions to fit our actions. And it is still only June, so despite the 30+ weather,
The water is still freezing.
I lost my winter coat.
Which means, I took my first "swim" in the lake this summer. Sim is stretching the meaning of the term, because I walked out to waist level, gathered my courage, and then dipped down to my neck for about a minute, before getting out again and back into the warmth of the sun.
And a stiff breeze.
The weather was changing while we were there and the winds were picking up quite a lot, as the heat lifted and let the cool air under the warm blanket. Tomorrow it will still be relatively warm at around 22, but will dip a bit colder for the next week and there will be rain - so no beaching.
We don't have much planned for the vacation time yet, and my wife still has a week to work, and Smallsteps and I will have to get up to mischief just the two of us. One of the things we are planning is to clean the house really well at the end of the week for the start of the entire family being on vacation.
Small things.
I am also thinking I should write a summer series this year, similar to what I used to do several years ago when I would walk the dog. These are shorter articles on whatever thoughts and reflections are on mind, without going into too much detail, that I am able to write from a phone if needs be. I really enjoyed these kinds of posts in the past, because they felt even more immediate, often using pictures that I have taken a moment earlier. I think it would be nice to have a series through this summer, especially since we are hoping to be out and about and away from home - even if we don't go far.
There is always something interesting to reflect on - regardless of the weather.

I'll never forget those swims we took when up your wayback a while. Small steps has come a long way since then, grown so much, but those moments will always be some of my best memories with her. I'm lucky to have had them, and a niece like her.
We were at the exact spot we first went to when you were here. She loves it there. Hopefully one day we can have a beach day down at Glenelg.
Yeah, that'll be cool! Hopefully she'll not be 30 when it happens...I might be dead. 😋
:D
Yeh weather is definitely the type of conditions that actions need to be adapted to XD
You're a lot more courageous than I would have been, I would have bailed out if the water was whatever I classified as "too cold" when I walked in. I may dip into freezing water only if it's 35+C.
I remember when my kids were small enough to have those hoodie towels XD so cute!
Is it too windy to just do the beach stuff without the swimming if it's too cold to swim?
When I was visiting @galenkp many years ago with my ex, it was about 33 degrees out and she and I were playing on the beach and swimming. My other bro and sister were sitting on the beach with towels wrapped around them, shivering...
Pressed enter too soon!
No, it was okay, though it is windy here today and not too pleasant to sit out like that.
I hope you have an awesome time on your vacation even if it does rain. I don't swim too much myself these days. Usually only if I am at one of the great lakes.
It is nearly all lake swimming here too - 200k lakes does that I guess :)
Our closest swimming "beach" is only a few hundred yards away, but this one is about 2 mi.
Once travelling, we will head to the coast to the sea - though it is pretty cold water now.
We have a lot of inland lakes, but I prefer the larger bodies of water.
Sounds like you are really in need of a break. I do hope you and the family can enjoy the vacation. Sunday I start doing short walks again and hope to do the same with posting about my thoughts and reflections.
That'd be cool! I just posted my first a moment ago. :)
Walking is good for the soul.
I like that idea, that your photos would be directly related to your words.
I hope you have a wonderful vacation. How long will you be off? What did you decide about the change in job?
Some will be related, some will be just in the moment :)
Taking a long holiday of 5-6 weeks. I have a full year saved up from when I had the stroke and they have carried forward, so I am always a year behind.
On the job front, I "expressed my interest" in finding out more and my supervisor is going to start developing the position and seeing what is possible.
Wonderful! You'll feel a new man after 5 or 6 weeks. I hope you even want to go back to work. Something tells me you will want to, you seem to thrive there.
I'm happy that you're taking a vacation. I don't really like freezing water, but when the air is warm I think there's a nice balance. You could have tried floating, where half you body is submerged, and the other have a bit warmer. I hope you enjoy spending more time with your daughter.
I have tried and tried and tried - I think I am made out of stone.
You'd get used to the water here too, eventually :)
It must be nice to live in an area with such enviable landscapes and at the same time in an area with such a changeable climate, but as they say the body eventually adapts to everything very nice Smallsteps God take care of you.
Nature is pretty great here, as it is beautiful and no animals are dangerous :)
We should all be outside more though - there is beauty everywhere.
I read so many things about Finland, Russia and Canada. I heard they are one of the coldest countries in the world. I wish to experience that cold someday though…
Also, I hope you enjoy your vacation
Parts of Russia are very extreme, where it gets down to -50 sometimes and there is permafrost. Finland is mild compared. However, it was only a couple months back that these lakes were covered in half a meter of ice and then it melts slowly, with the water staying cold quite long.
Dear @tarazkp !
Does Smallsteps know your current health status?
I believe you will live long until she is 60!
By the way, I felt that Finland's forests and lakes were not beautiful!
Not fully. .She knows I am not completely healthy.
Have you visited them? They can be gorgeous.
Dear @tarazkp !
I have never traveled abroad!😄
I hope your health and long life!

Taking that dip must have been so much fun brother. Enjoy making those summer memories with Smallsteps, it's these simple moments that truly make vacations special. Smallsteps is not going to forget this
Sagely advice from dad! Well said mate.
Now that is the kind of mischief my partner likes as well. If it was up to her, it would be more cleaning, less clubbing!
