Royal Castle in Săvârșin, Romania

Hello travelers

Have you ever passed by a tourist attraction in your area many times and never visited it?

This is what happened to me.

In today's post we will go together to visit the Royal Castle and, of course, the Royal Domain of Savarsin.

My grandparents lived in Savarsin commune and I have been going there for over 30 years, and every time I passed by this castle not knowing whether or not you can visit it.

So now, after more than 30 years, I decided it was time to visit this castle.

From what I had read on the internet to visit the castle in advance you had to make an appointment, that's exactly what I did and I called the phone number I found on the internet and asked what are the formalities to visit the castle.
So one Sunday we decided that it was time to pay a visit to the castle, especially since I had read that in 2015 the restoration work was finished and I was very curious how it looked.

After almost an hour of driving we arrived in front of the castle, very easily we found access to the ticket office, the price of a ticket is 30 lei / 6euro / person.

Queen Elena has put all her talent as a decorator, all her motherly love and all her personality as Queen of a country in desperate need of models and emotional and spiritual comfort into the design of the Castle of Săvârșin. Margareta, the Crown Custodian and Prince Radu want to follow the same path to transform Săvârșin into a model of rural community and royal representation of Romania in the coming decades.

The Royal Estate of Săvârșin demonstrates every year that it is a model of sustainable development. The restoration works, which started in 2007, were completed in 2015 and have restored the property to its pre-1947 charm. The restoration plans were drawn up by architect Serban Sturdza, President of the Order of Architects, and built heritage specialist David Bexter and architect Eugen Pănescu coordinated the restoration work. The projects in Săvârșin concerned the renovation of the building with original materials and methods, the restoration of the architecture and the priceless collection of trees in the park, the development of the Royal Forestry Office, the realization of the ecological greenhouses project, the social houses project for the neediest inhabitants of the commune, the creation of the "Village of Crafts" and the "Royal Village", as well as the setting up of a team of specialists to develop projects with European funding for tourism, agriculture, education, crafts and cultural projects.

Săvârșinul is the place where the Royal Family feels at home, the place where King Mihai and Queen Ana spent their holidays. Her Majesty Margareta and Prince Radu feel attached to this area and the people here. The Royal Castle of Săvârșin hosts the annual "Dorel Sibii" National Literature Festival under the patronage of Her Majesty Margareta, as well as the traditional Christmas and New Year celebrations, when Romanians from all over the country and the Republic of Moldova come to sing carols for the Royal Family.

It is very important that before you visit this place to inform you on the official website about the visiting hours because this place is only open on Saturdays and Sundays between 11-15:30, and on certain days there are special events and then the castle is not visited.

Unfortunately we received not so good news: the castle inside is not open to the public because the members of the Royal Family are living here at the moment, but we can visit the Royal Domain instead.

So let's start our visit with the Tea House, an amazing, beautifully decorated place where you can have tea or various kinds of cakes all made here.

We continue our visit here with the automobile museum, yes here we can see some of the vehicles that King Mihai himself used to drive around, the castle even had a service for these cars.

The last part of our visit is dedicated to the Royal Domain, this domain is huge, it even has a lake, hidden gardens, we found out that the Royal Family's menu is mostly made from what is produced in the castle gardens.

the members of the Royal Family are living here at the moment

When I started reading the post, surprisingly I thought that maybe the Royal family still live there, or if not, why they don't live there because the palace is still in good condition. Then I saw you wrote about it...

The inside of the palace is really beautiful...

Honestly, until I got there I didn't even know that members of the royal family actually lived there.
This is also the reason why the castle can only be visited with a guide and only on Saturdays and Sundays during a certain time.
From what the guide told us, so off the record, the royals have certain customs, they drink their morning tea at 6 am in the tea house (I've attached pictures from there), they visit the greenhouses that provide them with healthy food.
The property is very large and they have a small electric car with which they walk in the morning and during the day on those cobblestone alleys.
Thanks so much for stopping by.

Fancy, classy elite lifestyle and very fascinating...

I am sure it was a very interesting experience where you learned about the royal lifestyle. Thanks for sharing such an experience.

It was definitely a history lesson for me and I was able to get an idea of royal life.

The experience is sensational knowing that perhaps at some point one of the royal family members is looking out of the window and looking towards those visiting their domain.
