Turmeric, also known by the scientific name Curcuma longa, is an ancient Indian spice, medicinal herb and food dye in the ginger family. The main active compounds in turmeric are the curcuminoids. They are responsible for turmeric's orange-yellow color and most of its health benefits.

Curcumin, a substance with powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Curcumin has powerful antioxidant effects. It neutralizes free radicals on its own but also stimulates your body's own antioxidant enzymes. Curcumin boosts levels of the brain hormone BDNF, which increases the growth of new neurons and fights various degenerative processes in your brain. Curcumin has beneficial effects on several factors known to play a role in heart disease. Curcumin leads to several changes on the molecular level that may help prevent and perhaps even treat cancer.

Due to its many positive health effects, such as the potential to prevent heart disease, Alzheimer’s and cancer, curcumin may aid longevity. For hundreds of years, people around the world have linked turmeric to healing properties and cosmetic benefits. Turmeric may also revive your skin by bringing out its natural glow. Studies recommends applying curcumin as an optimized formula to best work on skin wounds. As the study suggests, boiling is the worst way to cook your turmeric, as it results in the maximum loss of curcumin. Try sprinkling a little bit of turmeric powder on top of your soups and smoothie bowls and blending it in with your coffees and milkshakes.

Both turmeric and curcumin, its main active ingredient, are generally considered safe and without any serious side effects. Yet, some people may experience side effects when they take them in large doses as supplements. Pure turmeric is considered safe for most people. However, turmeric powders may sometimes be adulterated with cheap fillers, such as wheat starch and questionable food colorants. It is important to use caution when deciding whether turmeric is something you need to try.

In Conclusion:
Check if the turmeric you are using right now is pure or mixed with some adulterants. It may make you feel nauseous, cause stomach disorders and even food poisoning. Make sure you buy your condiments from known and approved vendors or brands and always check for their veracity.
