这句话比喻在中途毅然决定改行。
例句：现今大多数的大学生，他们在毕业后，十之八九都是做着和他们求学时不相干的行业。这种“半路上出家”的情况，貌似已经习空见惯。
《半路上杀出个程咬金》
话说这名“程咬金”，原名为程知节，是唐初时代的一名大将。他为人性格憨厚但做事稍微鲁莽，常常发生意想不到的突发事情。
后人也用这句话比喻事情突然有聚变，出现一个意想不到的人物。
《半年下雨半年晴》
这句话直指气候可能持续多雨或者是久晴，另两个说法有“半年有雨半年晴”与“半年雨落半年晴”。
