The art of literature; are we doing well at Steemit?

in #steempress6 years ago (edited)

Recently I have been asking myself many questions about Steemit and the standardized literary publication model that has been created in Latin America.

When we publish a work that is characterized by telling a story, we try to capture in it a series of situations, emotions, thoughts and words that lead the reader to immerse himself in what he has in front of him. Literature in general is based on being a written, expression, so it is what should be highlighted.

Authors such as Anne Rice, Tim Kring or even Stephen King himself have produced world-renowned literary works that have been understood by reading every line, paragraph and chapter of their books.

At Steemit, on the other hand, we tend to accompany our work of this kind with images based on two basic principles:

  • The first is to generate the portrait of our publication.
  • The second one: that it looks more "nice" and worked on the publication.

In the second case, this act has become almost strictly necessary for your content to be cured by many projects in existence, where the images that accompany you throughout the reading allow you to avoid a comment like: "The writing is very good but it gets tired, there are many letters, you need some images between paragraphs...". A question I have seen happen in publications which, being "text only", are not valued as they should be.

Is this logical?

Although literature in standardized terms does not generate tangible images or sounds, it is a work in which one must take care of the form, the grammar, the chain of events, the creation of characters, space and time, actions, acts, aesthetics, oratory, genre, among many other aspects that give space to what one is creating - and not to mention the simple fact of being inspired to create a story requires a tremendous imaginative effort.

Just because it's a plain text doesn't mean it doesn't take a lot of hard work.

In this sense, I believe that as curators and readers of the different authors who publish their texts on the blockchain, we must begin to be aware that literature is made to be understood and appreciated by simply reading its lines and where, rather than encouraging the "decoration of publications", we must encourage this type of work to begin to take care of the most essential aspects of its nature, such as: spelling, grammar and writing.

Let's look for every action and every gesture of a character, every prose, every verse to automatically transport you to a world outside of your reality and where it is not necessary to have an image in between to realize that you are reading a quality work.
