Proteins, Second essential component of nutritious food.Part-2
What is up? Guys! Today we are going to look at how two different amino acids react when they form peptide bond in between and previously we have studied about the composition of proteins, and later we will see the levels of organization the proteins have. (Structures)
The carboxl group of one amino acid reacts by its carbon atom with the amine group of another amino acid by its nitrogen atom resulting in the formation of peptide bond. In the same way the polypeptide chain grows.
Structures of proteins.
After formation of many polypeptide chains, these chains begin to make four structures and today we will study only one structure called primary structure and the rest will be studied in the next part.
Primary Structure.
The primary structure of proteins has long, straight and branched chains joined together by disulphide bond. Each polypeptide chain has specific sequence of amino acids; any change in this sequence always disturbs the particular function of the protein they are part of. e:g insulin, which is a protein composed of two polypeptide chains with total of 51 amino acids, One of the chains has 30 amino acids and other one has 21 amino acids, In case of Diabetes, insulin cannot change glucose to glycogen because in one of the change, amino acid sequence is disturbed where glutamic amino acid is replaced by valine amino acid.
That is what we had to look at today and i hope this post will help you by restructuring your previous concepts about proteins.
