Face in Space
Face in Space is a series of art where the contour line around the face isn't completed and other body parts that would normally be there are represented or left out. When you take the contour from around the subjects face away, you get a flat image where their captivating qualities then take up the full frame of the painting. It stretches one's perception of boundaries and flexes our imagination as to what is possible in representing something that is so familiar to us.
Every person would imagine that placement of different lines, shapes, colors, line weights, etc in their own way. It allows the potential for people to see what they want to see without seeing it.
Typically, my paintings are done with no technique in mind, just going with the flow and doing what feels like will be right. There are always limitations that I set for myself so that each one can be reasonably understood as being in a single style.
The Close-up
In the close-up, the neck isn't attached to the face because the face lines are missing. This does give an element of placement as to where the lines would go, but also leaves it up to our imagination.
Eyes
These eyes turned out different from each other because instead of me painting them together at the same time, I forgot and painted the second one after I had already mixed my colors to something else. I think it turned out pretty cool though, even though it was a complete mistake.
