Lighting network is off to a good start with over 100 nodes and 465 channels setup in the space of 2 weeks and progress and a big step towards the proper functioning of Segwit which will greatly reduce transaction times.
Already a purchase has been made on Lighting of a VPN by Reddit user btc_throwaway1337 who purchased a VPN router from Torguard payment was instant with no fees.

Lighing is off to a great start and i think is one of the more signifacant develpments for bitcoin in recent times and if adoption continues at this rate 2018 could be poised for major adoption.

This is great news. I would also like folks to know they can save fees on Bitcoin transactions if they have a COINBASE and GDAX account. All they have to do when withdrawing crypto from the gdax is use the customers bitcoin address to with draw to. The crypto will leave the gdax and be sent to the other persons address. I have done this several times and it has never charged me a fee. It will still take 6 confirmations but when it it done the same amount I sent was the same amount received. Not lightning but still free....

Only if you purchase through GDAX. Another tip. If you MUST purchase through COINBASE to get a purchase done quickly. Purchase LITECOIN not BITCOIN.. the margin is minuscule. After purchasing the litecoin deposit it over to the GDAX for free. Then sell it on a limit order for whatever you want ( not market), the trade will be free. then take the cash and buy your bitcoin on the gdax on a limit order for free right at whatever price you want with only a penny or so margin. You can then withdraw the money to any account you wish or just send it back to your coinbase account for safe keeping. All the nonsense about high fees is for folks e who have been listing to FUD .. I think lightning network will definitely solve the scaling problem of Bitcoin. It is getting closer to main-stream use as soon as they are ready for their next level up.
Of course if all goes well then bitcoin will become faster and cheaper to use than it is right now. 😎

If this works, Bitcoin will finally attract a whole market of those who questioned its scalability. I also assume a lot of the stores which have recently stopped supporting Bitcoin payments might get back in the game. People these days don't do their own research, so big familiar names showing support is essential for mass adoption.
