So I woke up this morning thinking about my comments back and forth with @donkeypong about Shohei. I think we were right about the National League but it's hard to argue with the conventional wisdom with the start he's had. The worst part is that this on the blockchain so my declaration of Baseball's huge mistake will be there forever lol.
I came across this letter of apology today and felt it was worth sharing because while our crow may be just an Hors D'oeuvre, others are feasting on crow in the early part of the season.
Hey, so it's still early. Shohei looks great. But so did Tanaka his first go around. There simply isn't enough data right now on the guy for teams to decide how to pitch to him or how to bat against him. I never thought he was going to flop, but really, is he this good?
I'm a diehard Ichiro supporter. I think he's the greatest player of this generation, in terms of being a spokesperson, morally sound likewise; both of these aspects add to his talent as a player. I say this, because I don't want you to think I'm disparaging Shohei simply because he came from the Japanese league. Matsui was super legit too at the beginning of his career. I'm just saying all of this, as I'm not willing, yet, to give Shohei Trout's king crown of baseball.
