Have you ever thought, does it still make sense to own a car? In this blog post, I am going to discuss, 5 reasons why car ownership will soon die.
1.) Worsening traffic conditions.
An official study states that on average, traffic cost Filipinos at least 3 billion pesos every single day! If your commute to work isn’t 5km, is it really worth bringing your car? Driving in bumper-to-bumper traffic isn’t fun at all. If anythin else, it’s just stressful. You might say that you’re protected from the elements and you have A/C. But really, that’s how far the advantages go. If possible, walk or cycle to work.
2.) TRAIN law says take the train.
Since the Train law took effect, the automobile industry is one of the hardest hit. Cars and the fuel that powers it now costs more to buy. And the government is now as aggressive as ever in improving the quality of public transportation. The bottom line is, when the public transportation system is reliable and comfortable enough, there’s no need to buy a car.
3.) Ride sharing is more prevalent than ever.
Not long ago, having your own personal driver requires you to belong to aristocracy. Now, you just have to download an app, then you have your personal driver. Car pooling also is becoming popular, making your empty seats pay for the gas.
4.) A car is a liability.
In more ways than one. Saying that something is a liability just means that it would wreak havoc in your wallet. A car loses 10% of its value the moment it rolls off the lot. The tires wear out. The fuel runs out. The engine eats itself. The oil gets contaminated. The paint gets scratched. The panels loses its shape. When the thing always just sit in traffic for the entirety of its life. That would seem like it’s not worth it at all.
5.) Henry Ford only finished half of his homework.
Henry Ford is the reason why the motor car has been mass produced. The Model T gave the world a view on what’s it like to have your own personal mobile transportation. His mission looked pretty good, it paved way for road construction, and cities were built based on the motor car’s requirements. But what Henry Ford has forgotten, is that too much cars would clog up the roads, no matter how much we try and manage them.
