40 (forty) is the natural number following 39 and preceding 41. Though the word is related to "four" (4), the spelling "forty" replaced "fourty" in the course of the 17th century and is now the standard form.
The number 40 is used in Jewish, Christian, Islamic, and other Middle Eastern traditions to represent a large, approximate number, similar to "umpteen"

There's nothing in the Bible to indicate that 40 isn't a literal number.
I'm sure Jesus knew how many days he fasted in the desert. There were many kings of Israel and Judah. Some ruled for 40 years. Or 1 year or 12 years.
God said the Israelites would wander in the desert for 40 years and that's what they did.
I don't really care what the Koran says. If it wasn't written by a man it was inspired by Satan.
