Litecoin is one of the world's oldest cryptocurrency. It is also one of the top cryptocurrencies, with a market cap of over 7 billion dollars currently and ranking as the top 5 best cryptocurrency in the world.
Although seeing drops in terms of price along with other cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin,Ethereum,etc starting from January 2018, Litecoin has seen a relatively steady increase in price for the last 7 days.
Litecoin is slightly newer than Bitcoin, but Litecoin may precede Bitcoin in terms of functions.
You see Litecoin's block detection time is faster than Bitcoin meaning that it is easier to mine than Bitcoin. This enables less miners to require less time and hashes to produce a Litecoin compared to Bitcoin. This makes it faster to transfer Litecoin and cheaper compared to Bitcoin, you can save tons of money when transfering Litecoin.
In conclusion, Litecoin and maybe other alt coins may overtake Bitcoin in the near future. In fact, Bitcoin only accounts for 42% of the cryptocurrency market compared to 94% during 2013.
