These are today's top gainers in the top 100 market cap.
PotCoin
Potcoin has landed a partnership with Licensed Producer WeedMD & released some PotWallet Improvements.
Einsteinium
This is most likely due to a tweet by them stating "EMC2 mind-blowing announcement to be made on December 19" showing a photo of an Apple Macbook. There is a rumor going around that Apple is interested in the acquisition of this company, and although we think that is unlikely, the photo hints to that, and we know how well the "buy the rumor, sell the news" strategy works in this sector. Even if it is not true, this will drive many buys based on speculation that this news is true, and even if it is not, the price can expected to be driven up.
Einsteinium is also burning over 50 million coins, over 22% of the supply, due to a "wormhole removal".
Walton
This may be due to the announcement of Guardian Masternodes.
Coinnest has also announced they are listing WTC on December 5 and are issuing WTC to new users.
veChain
This is most likely due to their announcement of "An Apotheosis commencing within 96 hours" and a video announcing it.
Populous
There has been many red flags around this project, including announced partnerships that were discovered to be fake companies.
We will not look into what happened as we believe the state of this project renders further research insignificant, and we would not recommend anyone to buy into it.
Vertcoin
We have not found any significant catalyst to the price increase but noted that:
the Reddit community doubled in size, from 10,000 to 20,000 in under 1 month
They are doing a giveaway of 5 VTC to 2 people every day until December 31st
They were listed on Upbit exchange earlier this week
NXT
This coin had launched an announcement a few days ago that all NXT holders will be airdropped .5 Ignis per 1 NXT.
Ignis will be the first child-chain on the new Ardor Blockchain.
SALT
Salt has tweeted the following:
SALT is getting ready to launch our #Blockchain-Backed #Loan™ platform in December. #areyouready? #bitcoin#cryptocurrency#cryptolending Become a member today: https://goo.gl/esDEvz
They have also been hiring and are extremely active on Twitter, not only showing that they are actively working on this but looking further into the future with the expansion of the team.
We know a lot of this news is based on things that were announced a few days behind but we believe people backed-up from buying almost anything the past few days since the market-wide panic caused by synchronized DDOS of all exchanges 2-3 days ago, which caused BTC to drop over $2200 within 1 hour.

Hello & Cheers!! I'm a content detection and information bot. You are receiving this reply because a short link or links have been detected in your post/comment. The purpose of this message is to inform your readers and yourself about the use of and dangers of short links.
To the readers of the post: Short links are provided by url shortening services. The short links they provide can be useful in some cases. Generally their use is benign. But as with all useful tools there are dangers. Short links can be used to hide all sorts of things. Quite frequently they are used to hide referral links for instance. While not dangerous this can be deceptive. They can also be used to hide dangerous links such as links to phishing sites, sites loaded with malware, scam sites, etc. You should always be extremely cautious before clicking on one. If you don't know and trust the poster don't click. Even if you do you should still be cautious and wary of any site you are sent to. It's always better to visit the site directly and not through a short link.
To the author of the post: While short links may be useful on some sites they are not needed on steemit. You can use markdown to format your links such as this link to steemit. It's as simple as
[steemit](https://steemit.com)
Unlike short links this allows the reader to see where they are going by simply hovering over the link before they click on it.
