RE: The Troubling Rise of Fake Nice

in #economy2 years ago
It installs false comparisons in our value systems and robs us of the experiences we need to even know what quality consists of.

PREACH!

The rise of the Amazon warehouses everywhere, including around California farm land, is another striking example of the demand for everyday garbage that people can buy with literally one click. A new report shows that Amazon produced enough plastic packaging in 2021 to wrap the Earth more than 800 times in air pillows.

This fast-paced, materialistic culture we live in desensitizes us and discourages sense-making, hindering our ability to think well or even care. The commons have been severely disintegrating over the years. I feel like reviving the commons in all its forms could help people get back to knowing what quality is and how to lean on each other, rather than supporting neoliberal globalization. The more that people have personal, lived experiences with commoning of any sort, the greater the public understanding will be about these garbage systems.

If we can begin seeing the machinery underneath our manufactured landscapes, maybe we can begin fixing this machinery, if only in the smallest of ways.
This is literally the basis of a blog I'm working on.
