Welcome to paradise in the Southern California mountains!

Today, my hubby and my dog accompanied me to one of my favorite locations in the lower San Bernardino National Forest for a delightful afternoon of berry picking!

I wore old twill trousers and brought pruning clippers so I could access the biggest, juiciest bracts of blackberries. And boy, did we bring home a boon!

Brought them home as the sun set over Mt. Baldy to the west, and the firefighting aircraft came down to the hangar for another night.

Here is the cleaned up bowlful of wild ripened, delectable blackberries-- 3.5 lbs worth!

I look forward to making a pie or tart out of some of these jewels. But lawd knows, they are easy enough to devour out of hand. Or, as my boy did once I gave him permission: over a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

May your locale be fruitful as the fall harvest draws near

Indeed! So happy you stopped by! In truth, we ate every one of them raw over milk or ice cream!

hahaha! Infact that's the best way out to enjoy these beauties!

Even in many public parks, berries are fair game for foraging! So it's nice to be ready to bring home a lot of blackberries, like you did! Nice picking! :D

Thank you for this important info about widespread legallity of berry picking. I have homeless friends in various states, some of whom are afraid of the law messing up any foraging they might attempt!

Blackberries are one of the joys of summer, that's for sure! Nice work in bringing home a good harvest! There's nothing like a giant handful of really ripe blackberries! :D

I checked my preferred supermarket the other day, and learned we pulled $45 worth of "organic bb per pound" value! The experience doing it, tho, of course is the proverbial " priceless" ;) thanks so much

Mmm, they look great!

So tasty, time to check the altitude for the next picking sessh!

hehe, altitude can be a doozie...

I have never tried blackberries, are they any good?

Oh wow, are they manna from heaven! Sweet as jam, soft as jelly, black as the night sky! They are my favorite. Wild ones have more variability in size, but the flavor is rich to the point of woodsy in comparison to hothouse berries. Thanks for stopping by with a pertinent question. Just remember the axiom: the blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice ;)
