Ever heard of the knock knock jokes?
Knock knock jokes have been around apparently for as far back as 1934. (This post is supposed to lighten up the mood from today so you can read up on the history of knock knock jokes here).
The knock knock joke is a question-and-answer joke that anyone can be part of -both adults and children.
The scenario is of a person knocking on the front door to the house of another person. The teller of the joke goes, "Knock, knock!"; the recipient responds, "Who's there?" The teller of the joke gives a name (let's say Fanny) or a description or something that could pass for a name. The recipient then responds asking the caller's surname ("Fanny who?"), to which the joke-teller now responds by delivering a pun involving the name ("Fanny body calls, tell them I'm at your doorstep.").
This joke has a formula that must be followed strictly. Anything outside this formula doesn't pass for a knock knock joke:
Knock knock
Who's there?
[Someone or Something]
[Someone or something] who?
[Punchline]
But for we Nigerians, the punchline is usually the opening line for a song or a popular/common statement.
