RE: Unpopular Opinion : 10 reasons why Dota/Esports SHOULD NOT be included in the Olympics

in #gaming8 years ago

Whilst I may not personally agree with your opinion (as I am a huge fan of E-Sports and the sheer numbers of people who currently watch are a telltale sign that people enjoy it as a sport), A few points you have made are very reasonable; In terms of being unhealthy, the games to include or not include, and what particular types of games would be sports?

Again I do think all of the other points are moot; Match Fixing prevalence doesn't depend on the sport and will occur in every sport, The number of people who watch DotA at TI prove it is not always boring on Screen, Being dominated by China (considering they have lost a lot of TIs, etc) I would consider this equal with everything else.

Nevertheless I think you have written a well rounded article here, and whilst I may disagree with your opinion there are probably many people out there who would agree with some of the points you've made! It was a good read nonetheless :)

Hi @lockll I appreciate the dissenting opinion :) people in steemit are too nice to a fault haha here are my replies to your points:

"Match Fixing prevalence doesn't depend on the sport and will occur in every sport" Yes that is true, but Esports will be more widespread than any sport, it also has a younger audience. that point of the whole thing is the image of Esports to the committee and they also base their rulings on that (whether to include this sport or not)

" The number of people who watch DotA at TI" Yes, the people who watch DOTA, those who know DOTA, but let the ordinary guy watch it without context and he'll probably get confused and lost. You need context, you need to know the beauty of the mechanics, and that takes time. By the time people get used to it, there will be another game so its a constant juggle.

"Being dominated by China (considering they have lost a lot of TIs, etc)" They also have won alot and are a constant threat. They were 2nd and 5th place in TI 1 2011, they were champs in TI 2 2012 4 out of 5 top teams were from China, They were 4th-6th place in TI 3 2013, they were champs again in TI 4 2014 with 4 in the top 10, they were 2nd in TI 5 2015 and 4 of the top 6 teams were from China, Champs again in TI 5 2016, 2nd again in TI6 2017 with 4 of the top 5 from China.

Thanks for the reply man :) followed you already, good to see a fellow E-sports fan :)
