Entire Fig harvest destroyed by birds
My entire fig harvest was destroyed by birds!! The entire harvest consisted of just 1 fig. This was the first time my fig tree had fruit, and it was only the 1 fig. I was watching this fig grow for some time and was looking forward to eat it. This morning when I got there, the birds however beat me to my fig.
Below you can see that the fig was looking quite good on the inside. At least the birds left some for the ants
Below you can see the tree. I got it from a friend of mine who has a big tree with lots of figs on it. The tree he gave me started growing on its own in his garden. This year was the first time the tree had a fruit, hopefully, it will have more figs next year.
The photos was taken by me, with my iPhone
Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoyed it.
I think its ok when bird get to eat those figs, its nature's way of making sure those beautiful fig trees wont go to extinction.
Those birds whor ate it will give way to many more fig trees that other people would enjoy.
Nice post by the way...
Hi @tjpezlo
Thank you for reading and commenting, It could have been the birds that caused my fig tree to start growing in my friend's garden in the first place.
And you got an entertaining post out of it:)
When life gives you figs and takes them away, make lemonade?
That bird knew you had the best one! ~ In Asia, they place a plastic bag over each fruit to keep them from being eaten.
Hi @pilgrimtraveler, thank you for commenting, I hope the tree will have more fruit next year, and then I will also cover some of the fruit
Uh oh! At least you weren't planning to survive on your crop. I can empathize. I have lost so much fruit to birds over the years. Sometimes I'm able to stop them - other times, not so much. I'll have to write about that, lol. Happy New Year! And I hope 2017 is your best year yet, especially in the garden!
Thank you @haphazard-hstead for commenting, I also wish you have a fantastic 2017. I think next year I will also cover some of the figs.

Hi @cognoscere
Thank you for reading and commenting and for the advice.
I hope you have lots of fig , and lots of happiness as much as the fig in 2017. :D
Hi @bontonstory
Thank you for the good wishes, I am sure the tree will have much more fruit next year.
OK, not too bad. I thought was bad entire but I'm next year will have more.
I've seen people with fruit tree protecting the fruit by covering it with some plastic or paper so the birds don't get to it but I'm not sure that works against the pest insects though.
Hi @ace108
Yes it was not really a bad thing, as it was only 1 fig, and I don't need the fruit for income, just for private use at home. Thank you for reading and commenting.
You're welcome
