Just picked up a Glock 19 Gen 3 and love it so far. Really never thought I would own a glock, but makes a great doomsday gun since they are so prevalent in the US.

I loved my Glock 34. Out of the box it was a great stock class competition gun. All I did was add a Ghost maker trigger and Shoot Steel. Then I decided to get out of debt and sold it along with the rest of my 3 gun rig.
I may just have to pick up another.... Also the reason for the 9 instead of 40 is that I wanted quicker follow up shots on steel.
The guns are the very last thing to go if I end up in a hole, but I know what you mean. 40's are out in my opinion. Hollow points have come a long way and made the 40 obsolete. The debate rages on over 9mm vs. 45.
I just stopped shooting 3 gun as the ammo cost was the big thing. Took that savings and dropped it on debt. Being a Fire Fighter I can always pick up another one with the blue label program. And I will have one that I haven't run several thousand rounds through :)
Agreed I like the 1911 style pistols and have owned a Springfield and a Kimber but due to accident*, I cant hit crap with them over 21 feet. Now with .357 magnum single action army I can hit a milk jug 100 yards out. The recoil impulse is more straight back. I go 9 just for the ability to shoot them well. With some Hornaday TAP I do not fear being under gunned.
*My right wrist is fused together with pins. My radius was cut through to enable me to rotate my hand, so only the ulna supports my grip.
I use a 34 as my daily carry gun. Great pistol.
