What is the FFE? Firefighting Ensemble

in #history7 years ago (edited)

Every sailor is expected to maintain damage control (DC) qualifications to ensure they can mitigate fire and flooding either in combat or accidents. Simply, every sailor is a firefighter just as every marine is a rifleman.

One such piece of equipment is the Firefighting Ensemble (FFE) damage control teams will be expected to dawn in training and during an actual causality.

Firefighting Ensemble (FFE)

The Firefighting Ensemble is intended to protect the firefighter from short duration flame (flash) exposure, heat, and fallingg debris.
For more information on the FFE, see DCRS Firefighting/Access Personnel Kit and the Index.

The FFE consists of the following items:
DC/FF Helmet / Index shown w/Light (not required on Submarine)
Firefighter’s Hood (PBI Gold) / Index
Fire Protective Gear (FPG) / Index or Firefighter’s Coverall / Index
Firefighter’s Gloves (Steam Block) / Index

During training team members will evaluate damage control team members to ensure their gear is properly worn and they are doing all activities in a safe and controlled manner. All training team members will wear identification to let everyone know immediatly they are apart of the ships training team rather than actively apart of the drill.
