Hi Steemians,
Today we will visit Mohasthangarh, the most ancient city so far discovered in Bangladesh situated in Asia, Bangladesh, Rajshahi Division, Bogra District, Shibganj thana, some 15 km north from Bogra at Karatoya river. Mahasthan means a place that has excellent sanctity and garh means fort. It was formerly known as Pundranagara (most likely - older name), Paundravardhanapura (most likely - older name), Pundrakshetra. It is believed that the location for the city in the area was decided upon because it is one of the highest areas in Bangladesh. This enormous city was founded at 300 BC or even earlier and served as a capital of Pundravardhana state.
The most famous place there is known as "Behular Basorghar" (Bridal chamber of Behula), a character from ancient myth.
Besides the fortified area, there are around a hundred mounds spread over an area with a radius of 9 km.
Gobhindo Bhita, a temple close to the north-eastern corner of the citadel...
Gokul Medh (Lokhindorer Bashor Ghor), a temple 3 km south of the citadel
Mohasthangarh Museum is an amazing place to visit. As we walked through the museum rooms, we saw many sculptures.
Thanks for reading my post. Many more exciting places to visit are coming.
