Na minha rua, a quarta-feira é o dia da semana que tem feira e fazemos a reposição de frutas, legumes e verduras. Eu geralmente compro as mesmas coisas, mas hoje olhei a bandeijinha de caju, que estava a R$ 10, e pensei: vou fazer um suco para tomar depois do almoço.
Essa fruta nativa do Brasil não nasce em São Paulo, onde moro. Ela é comum do Nordeste, nos estados como o Ceará, Rio Grande do Norte e Piauí. Aqui geralmente custa meio caro e achei que estava baratinho.

Além de ser rico em vitamina C e muito saboroso - quando ainda não está maduro dá uma sensação de torcer a boca - ele vem com aquela semente linda em cima, que depois de torrada, é quebrada para tirar a castanha. Das castanhas brasileiras, é a minha favorita sem dúvida.
Muita gente que ama pratos vegetarianos usa a fruta - ou a carne do caju - para produzir pratos, como a Moqueca de Caju, geralmente feita com peixes e frutos do mar.
Olha que coisa mais linda o maior cajueiro do Brasil, que fica em Pirangi, no Rio Grande do Norte. Sua copa representa uma área de cobertura de 8,5 mil metros quadrados e ele ocupa um perímetro de aproximadamente 500 metros. Explica-se que seriam necessários 70 cajueiros para equivaler ao maior cajueiro do mundo em Pirangi RN. A árvore também é capaz de produzir cerca de 2,5 toneladas de caju por safra.
